Favorite cart: Odyssey II - It has a nice handle to help you pull out the cartridge!

Worst cart: Maybe Super Noah's Ark 3D for SNES

Best cart artwork: Klax for TG16! I can't find any pictures of it online, but it looks really awesome. Maybe I should scan it later.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Best cart: Nintendo 64. I love these carts. They're heavy, they feel good to insert in the console, they look nice. Best cart ever.

Worst cart: GBA. I hate these carts. They're too small and they're ugly. They feel horrible to insert into the system. Worst cart ever.

(That's a pirate cart on the picture by the way, but it was the best one I could find in ten seconds. DS carts look fairly good, but they are too small. I always lose them.)

It's not about cart art... plz read rule #3 kthxbai >_>

I agree with you on the GBA carts (I used to own a GBA), but for a pirate that's damn authentic!

And btw since both of you guys failed to read the second portion of rule #2, for the sake of load times on EVERYONES CONNECTIONS (even my DSL), DO NOT USE INLINE PICTURES! JUST PASTE THE PICTURE URL IN YOUR POST, THANK YOU.

I like pictures in the thread.  Links to pictures are much more lame.  Dial-up users can go to hell where they belong.  They don't even deserve to be alive.  God hates dial-up users.  And midgets.  I certainly won't cater to them.

OK here's my choices based on the systems I have:

Cool looking carts:

From top to bottom, left to right:
Sega 32X - Much cooler looking than standard Genesis carts with neat little rivets and other fun things.
Sega Master System Card - Cards are just awesome looking.
Sega Master System Cartridge - Clean and simple.  Red and black color scheme = awesome.  I love it!
TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine HuCard - A more refined version of the Sega card.  Just too cool!
Sega Mega Drive Japanese Standard - I always liked the design of these.
Sega Saturn Official Cartridges - Awesome looking carts for Backup saves, extra RAM, King of Fighters '95 and Ultraman.
Sega Mega Drive Japanese Sunsoft - A few different Sunsoft MD games have this cart.  I even like it much better than the standard Mega Drive cart!  Very tough plastic and simply awesome looking.

Lackluster looking carts:

From top to bottom, left to right:
Sega Genesis Electronic Arts Cartridges - These look stupid.  What's the yellow tab for?  Looks unlicensed and cheap.
Virtual Boy - Flat, square and boring.  Just like my face.
Neo Geo Pocket Color - A little more boring than GameBoy Advance carts... enough to make this list.
Super Nintendo Lockless Cartridges - I fail to understand why Nintendo changed the design of the carts so that they could now be pulled out with the power on.  It is a close call between this and the regular SNES carts that lock, but this one edges the others out.
NES Tengen Cartridges - Black doesn't suit the system, and these carts are much harder to remove from the system than regular NES carts due to the lack of a notch to grab onto when pulling.
Honorable mentions: (I have these, but forgot to pull them out to include in the pic)
Sega Genesis Virtua Racing - Looks retarded due to giant SVP chip.
Sega Genesis Sonic & Knuckles Cartridge - Looks like it was designed by someone with Down Syndrome™.

There are many types of carts which I don't have which could fit here, like most unauthorized NES 3rd party carts, Accolade Genesis carts, most Saturn 3rd party carts, most pre-NES game system carts, etc.

Carts that fall in neither the "Cool" or the "Lackluster" categories are:
Sega Genesis standard
Neo Geo AES
Nintendo 64
Nintendo Entertainment System
GameBoy Advance
Nintendo DS
etc etc etc

Yes it will.

....Yes it will.

By the way, while you can't pull out PAL SNES/SFC carts while the system's on, you can still try - and the game will still screw up and the SRAM (if any) will be corrupted. So it doesn't really matter if you can pull it out or not.

Joe, I think NGPC cartridges are pretty neat! GBA's look stupid because it's essentially the same design, only shorter which makes it look like a little chubby bastard. Plus NGPC carts are easy to remove from systems, unlike all the Gameboy variation carts over the years.

By the way, another cool cart is the Hudson BeeCard or whatever for MSX.

Cool scan of the back of one.

Haha, I love how your overall coolest didn't really have any connection with the previous examples you mentioned :D .

My favorites:

2600 IMAGIC & Konami cartridges. in the former case, they're all silvery and space-age looking, and have that handy grab panel. The latter are almost as good, but aren't quite as shiny and grabable.

NES cartridges. they're big, but not too heavy, easy to organize, and easy to insert (top-loading or front)

MyCards and HuCards. they're very easily transported, and have a nice big area for cart art. The former could be better, 'cuz the title should not be upside-down when in the system. They aren't vertically stackable (if you want to find one), but they're so small it is trivial to go through the lot to find the one you want.

Least favorites:

SMS carts. while simple and effective, they don't stand out, and can't be stacked vertically if you want to find one. (arguably, this is what the cases are for, but I digress...)

n64 carts. small but heavy, and rounded on top (not easily gripped) and also not stackable.

All NES pirate carts: They are all ugly as hell. Every single one. some are uglier than others (camerica's are the worst). They usually have strange bumps and grooves that serve no purpose. Every single one is inferior to the official NES cartridge.

Saturn 'cartridges'; the first party carts aren't distinctive. third party carts are usually ugly.
