It seems that some people are confused by the question.  The poll is asking 'what element made gaming really fun?'  It doesn't concern anything about what sold systems and games.  Of course marketing would tout the awesome graphics, but what the f*ck did you expect them to do?  Put out adds that didn't show any gameplay?  Maybe they should have shown little Timmy and Suzy with big shit eating grins and a voice over asking "Don't they look like they're having fun?  You could too, if you'd just buy a Genesis."  For some reason that wouldn't have been very effective.  If gameplay takes a back seat to graphics, then the GameBoy must have been a failure.  Maybe I'm wrong, but four shades of creamed spinach do not equal quality graphics.

To anybody that thinks that good graphics makes a game fun - you must really enjoy those nutty Hawaii bikini 'games'.  There's plenty of good looking trim on 'em.

Hentai games are better with good graphics.

I like the Comad New Fantasia games, along with the Gals Panic ones. Very well made Qix clones. I also like Sexy Pachinko Reaction.
If you want to try them run them on Mame.

What about Killer Instinct? That was a TERRIBLE PORT.
A terrible port of a terrible game.

This is true. However, the graphics were AMAZING in the arcade (take a picture of the victory screens in MAME, they make great wallpapers) and I STILL love the Killer Cuts CD.

The graphics were alright for the time, but the character design/art was awful. The characters all looked like deformed inbred dwarves(and they actually promoted the game with ass shots of the 'ladies').

KI makes the original Masters of the Universe figures look like anatomical models.

...they actually promoted the game with ass shots of the 'ladies'[/i]).

Which reminds me, has anybody actually sucessfully pulled off Orchid's flash move in the arcades? I think it's a hoax...
