cord-brick-cord
« on: July 10, 2007, 11:38:36 AM »
Was the TG16 the first console to use a cord-brick-cord setup for it's power supply?

It's not my ideal type of power supply (internal is, like the DC or Saturn) but it's better than the traditional AC adapter.

First in the ENTIRE WORLD?  Probably not.  But its the first that I ever saw.  It confused me.  I'd rather have a ton of little bricks over the entire length of the cord rather than one huge brick randomly stuck in the middle.

I don't recall any previous consoles using an inline-transformer-type power supply. I believe the TG16 may have been the first (and only, I've never seen one since use one either).

Both the Wii and 360 use 'em.

The first revision of the Apple //c used a goofy inline AC adapter like that. Not a console, I know, but still...

Soon after, Apple realized the engineer who designed that part of the Apple //c was suffering from mental disease and all computers should have internal power supplies, so they fixed it in subsequent revisions.

wow, bricks and cords can lead to mental breakdowns? That's pretty flippin' disturbing.  I know cords can be a pain in the ass to untangle and stuff away but mental breakdowns?

And this is coming from a guy who almost had a mental breakdown when he didn't know how to use a can opener one time.

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

Yeah I'm pretty sure Gamecube has one as well.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Yeah, the Gamecube has one.

Yes, my post here is pretty useless since two others have already confirmed it, but I know you all were waiting for MY thoughts on the Gamecube power brick subject.

That depends on weather or not you consider the C64 a console or not.

Good call. I never think of it as one, but it was originally supposed to be one, but then they slapped on a keyboard at the last minute and called it a Personal Computer.

Anybody remember the Atari 5200?  RF switch - Cord - Brick - Cord.  Yeah.

AVGN has a good feature on it...
