I love the home carts, and I'm not at all saying that you made a bad decision in buying an AES.

I am.

An MVS should be every "new" NeoGeo player's first system. Let them get into things a little bit, decide if they are REALLY serious about the console. If so, and for some reason you still want an AES, at that point you'll probably be OK to buy one.

But to buy one as your first Neo.... Man I just can't imagine.

You see SignOfZeta have seizures over $100 American TurboGrafx games, shit, I'd hate to see him start collecting for NeoGeo AES.

Don't MVS adapters for the AES systems exist? What other why can you play MVS cartridges besides getting an expensive aging Neo Geo cabinet with broken buttons and joysticks?

I recently bought an AES on ebay, lol. It is a boxed and complete US gold system with 2 games, got it for around $320 shipped. Its a pretty cool system. I've been having lots of fun with it.

Just buy an MVS board, and consolize it/hook it up to a Supergun.

Adaptors exist, but compatibility is not 100%.
you can also get a lone MVS board and add a supergun or consolize it.

An MVS+supergun is more expensive at first, but you'll make all the money back just from Samurai Showdown IV. Seriously. Just from that one game.

An AES is nice, I guess, but you can build way better sticks and unless you are rich as f*ck the only games you'll be able to afford are stuff like Three Count Bout and Baseball Stars. AES is a royal screwing. It makes the whole TG-16/PCE price differentiation look like a non-issue. Of course you could blow another couple of hundred smackers on a POS Phantom One converter, but as mentioned above it doesn't work very well.

I used to think paying $300 for game was kind of crazy, but what's more sad is that $250+ of that $300 is going just to the case and manual because the ugly beat up MVS cart with the exact same code on it is less than a new import DS game.

Now, all this wasn't true when the stuff was new. MVS kits were a grand and AES carts $300. But now thanks to the death of arcades and much higher print runs the vast majority of MVS carts can be had for $40 or less, whereas the last few years of AES are still going for original retail or more so...its just not worth it.

It does play snkp titles but like the,Phantom 1 it's about having the right deck and some games you will get a graphic glitch.

I have a love for the Genesis/Megadrive and NES/Famicom. I have a ton of games for both systems. The Genesis is probably my favorite. I have a Sega CD and several games for that.

Speaking of the Genny, who here is excited about Pier Solar, the new RPG coming out?

Wow, that actually looks really good. I'm not big into the Genesis though.

Well they are a lot prettier than an MVS+Supergun, that's for sure. And a lot smaller.

I have an AES and quite like it.  Sure I could save money with an MVS, but I really don't care.  I keep my collection small
and only intend to buy the games I really want.  Sure I could get an MVS and buy all 10 KoF's for cheap, but I wouldn't
really play them all.  I'd rather take that money and buy just one AES game that I actually will devote real time too.

Granted I live in Japan and can get AES games a bit cheaper then most, but I highly support any new AES fan.  Congratulations
rainbow_bright, and welcome to the NeoGeo party.   :D

My AES collection:

KoF '02, Last Blade 2, Samurai Shodown 2

Last Resort, KoF '96, Matrimelee, AoF 3

Crossed Swords, Top Hunter, Metal Slug 3

Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Magical Drop 2

Blazing Star (took me two years to find this one!)
