Bomberman game on iPod.
« on: April 18, 2008, 03:56:32 PM »
I bought it for my iPod just now. Don't know how it is. Just watched a little video so far of it. Hope it was worth the $4.99 I paid just now. More info here:

These are the weirdest sort of posts...

Anyway, it seems that any iPod game that doesn't use a control method that is based on rotating something (or selecting things from a menu) would be virtually unplayable since the actual buttons on the controller just aren't made for this sort of thing, and more importantly would probably crap out after not much serious play. Also the "action" button would be the button in the middle...which would be really awkward.

I'm curious as to what you think of the game.

I can't think of a single game I'd want to play with the iPod control scheme.  I was thinking about Tempest, but there wouldn't be a good fire button.  Maybe if it auto-fired.

Well it works pretty great for the pack-in games, which these days are a solitaire game, a circular Break Out game, and a quiz game. Even the cheap iPods have amazing power in them now. 3D graphics and stuff.

I think if people actually developed original titles based around the click wheel in the first place (or the touch screens on the upscale models) there could be great iPod games.

I won't be playing Sonic the Hedgehog on it though, and yeah they actually sell such a thing.

Hmm, well the control scheme, in order to move Bomberman, you use the iPod navigation wheel, but you don't actually press the <<, >>, Menu or >/|| buttons, you just put your finger on which direction you want Bomberman to go. If you want him to go up, but your finger on "Menu", if you want him to go down, put your finger on >/||, you get the idea. And you press the center button to lay bombs. The game is rather frustrating. And movement is really over sensitive.

Hey, that sounds better than I thought it would be. Makes me wonder if Ms. Pac Man is any good...then again, since I'm the sort that bitches about Pac Man machines with 8-way sticks...probably not.
