What made Splatterhouse a classic is the simplicity of the gameplay. I'm excited for the new gen version, and if it's for the Wii exclusively, then it's just one more reason to  pick one up. Hell, I probably would have picked one up a long time ago if they weren't so damned rare. It's easier finding a Turbo Duo than a Wii.  ](*,)

I'm hoping for well executed 2d game play in a 3d model, but I'm betting it'll be more like Resident Evil with a hockey mask and 2x4.  Maybe I'm just a negative nelly, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if this remake resembles the original any more than Golden Axe: Beast Rider does its forbears (eff you Sega, though Tyris looks nice).

Any idea what console this is on?

From what I've read online (so you know it's reliable  ), it's coming to the Wii, PS3, and 360.

Hoping for remakes of Splatterhouse 1,2&3.

I already have a mint copy of Splatterhouse for the TG-16 and a loose Splatterhouse cart for the GEN and there is no need for me to download them on the virtual console.

Splatterhouse 3 was an awesome game but I hated that timer and I only got the ending with Rick and Jennifer because I failed to save their son on time. :( :-"

Splatterhouse Wanpaku Grafitti is a goofy and fun game on the famicom and I am surprised that it was in complete english text on a japanese game. 8)

It would be awesome if in this new next-gen Splatterhouse they had an unlockable, playable version of the arcade original.

I'm actually hoping this will be a downloadable WiiWare/PSN/XBLA title.  Better chance of it being straightforward, old-school gameplay that way.

Now I'm thinking about swinging the Wii remote around like a 2x4.  =P~

This is good news indeed. I am very excited about this revival of the splatterhouse franchise. It is about damn time they released a new one.

Sadly, I am not that excited for it as just about(not all) revivals of older games and newer games in general lack the fun of the simplistic gameplay of older games. I do not have a wii so if it happens to be on that console i will not be playing it at all..as I will not buy a wii for 1 game.

Hope they do the series justice and NOT f*ck it up.

Lets wait and see...

I hope that's supposed to be mutant Rick, otherwise he looks horrible.

I agree. I also wish they went back to the Jason type mask, but I totally understand why they don't or can't go there. But yeah, I really hope that is mutant Rick. It's just a little over the top.

The developer behind the game is BottleRocket, who in various incarnations were responsible for the Sony PS2 hits Mark of Kri and Rise of the Kasai. Both of those games were attractive (they basically looked like a Disney film in terms of character design and animation) and -- belying the smooth graphics -- surprisingly violent. This made BottleRocket a solid choice to develop the revival of Namco Bandai's hyper-violent action series, which will arrive on both PS3 and Xbox 360 sometime around mid-2009. You can look at the in-game model of Rick above to get an idea of what the actual game looks like, but check out the June issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly for the full, no-holds barred reveal.

You know, I have been wanting a new Splatterhouse game for years, and I was really hoping for it to eventually be done. This is extremely crushing to any hope I had of the game being good. Mark of Kri and Rise of the Kasai both SUCKED, and they might as well just make Splatterhouse into a cheap Disney cartoon if they are going to use similar graphics.

Between this, and all the other new remakes coming out (Bionic Commando, Golden Axe: Beast Rider, Alien Crush, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix), I feel not only old, but that there is not very much coming out that is for me anymore gaming wise. People wonder why I don't want a PS3, or that I barely want an XBOX360 or a Wii, and this is exactly why.

Bionic Commando looks like a Metal Gear Solid rip off, and probably will be.
Street Fighter IV doesn't look that impressive.
Golden Axe looks like World of Warcraft / Final Fantasy XI.
Alien Crush looks like shit.
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix looks bad in my opinion.

Between all of this and what else is going on in my life as well as the world, it's all disappointing.
Warm milk, turkey, those can make you sleepy(well, the consumption of, you can't just hand around a turkey or a glass of warm milk, & expect to fall asleep).

What are you talking about?  The Mark of Kri was fantastic.

I am dissapointed that Namco themselves aren't making it but a obscure US developer is. This is going to be Final Fight Streetwise all over again.
