The North America release was the X-Eye.  The CD-X is something else.  The X-Eye lacks the s-video and I believe also lacks the useless karaoke functions.

Thanks Joe! (great episode on the Gamecube btw)
I was actually wondering about the differences between the "X-eye" vs. the CDX...which one is better for a total Genesis/CD in one system? Are loading speeds the same thing? I'm kind of wanting to see if its like comparing a Suitcase PCE vs. a Duo, I heard the Duo is a faster loader then a standard Suitcase or Turbo CD setup. Dunno if it's true, Just curious...

It actually still plays CD-G, and has the mic input as well, but yeah, just as useless. Except for parties of course!
Posting is overrated.

I think it uses a different encoder but ive never seen a direct comparison.  I know the composite on my wondermega 2 looks great.  Not sure how identical the wondermega 2 and x eye are

The X'Eye uses the CXA1145 encoder like the model 1 Genesis and original Wondermega do. It's a little better than what you get out of a Genesis but not by a whole lot.

The Wondermega also has the following DSP effect buttons (and level controls under the sliding control panel):

Pretty sure the X-Eye and Wondermega 2 don't have these.

True, I never use my Wondermega for Karaoke, but the DSP effects are far from useless! The "game" setting sounds absolutely amazing, especially on a good stereo system or powered headphones. If you like Genesis/Mega Drive music, imagine it with a lot more punch, and with crisper sound. For a game music fan the DSP effects on the Wondermega is almost as important to me as the S-video.

All the recent Hydlide talk inspired me to pick up a copy again.  I haven't played it in 20 years and it's still a good game!  Also picked up some of the remaining "RPGs" I don't have for the NES.

How's The Immortal for the NES? The Genesis/Mega Drive version is one of my favorite games for the system, but I've never played the NES version (or the Amiga version for that matter).

Nice, you found it! And the manual you were looking for. That stuff isn't too easy to come by these days, at least at a reasonable price.

Nice Wondermega, those things always command big $$$. Not sure I understand your remark about video quality, are you implying that the Wondermega's s-video output is better than the Mega Drive's RGB output (which doesn't require a mod by the way, the Mega Drive outputs RGB natively)? My Mega Drive has great RGB output.

I've been on a Famicom buzz of late myself, and managed to nab Rob, a block set and some brand new 3D glasses:
