Cobra Command
« on: September 10, 2008, 06:44:14 PM »
This was a laser disc arcade game released by the awesome Data East in 1984, and this is one of their best games along with Heavy Barrel, Robocop, Bad Dudes, and Midnight Resistance. The Sega CD version by Wolfteam isn't too bad either! But in that version they changed the music and some of the animation, but it's forgivable. Such a great game!

Dragon's Lair appreciation. Again.

I have this on the Sega CD and the Sega Saturn.  The Sega CD version features amazing new sound effects coming from all around and much more powerful (the same treatment with new sound was also given to the Sega CD version of Road Avenger/Blasters).  The original and Saturn versions sound much milder and far less powerful and not impressive in any way.  It was like they were reduced to mono, all low frequencies taken out and the volume turned down 12db.

Ummm, Dragon's Lair is one of the greatest games of all time, other wise Digital Leisure, Inc. wouldn't be making DVD, BluRay, HD-DVD, PlayStation 2 or Xbox versions of it. Same thing with Space Ace.

Dragon's Lair appreciation. Again.

You have not SEEN the NES version. it only vaguely resembles the original LD game. look up the ANN's review of it.

I am not, because ANN sucks ass. And I've played the NES version, and it's not as bad as people are making it look (in fact, I'm gonna go play it again right now, and I'm also gonna try and find a copy of the import Famicom version to add to my Famicom collection). And it's further proven with this:

Take that, JAMES. And I can't believe there's actually people here who like that talentless, unfunny twat. I seriously hope he'll be forgotten about in a few years or sooner.

It's not like AVGN is the only person to pan the NES Dragon's Lair; it's almost universally panned as a game with a ton of potential but poor execution.  Your 'proof' even admits that it's a failure as a platformer.

Quote
As a platform game this is abysmal, but as a faithful conversion of the arcade, it's simply amazing.

This review proves little more than the author's bias towards the game, since the only things that the NES version comes close to accurately portraying are the plot and mood of the original.  He makes me wonder if he's ever played the LD, as the game mechanics couldn't be more different (short of a Dragon's Lair crossword puzzle).

It's not a standard platformer, just as the review stated. It requires THINKING. And you need to be open minded to understand the game and it's innovations. But because this generation sucks, open minded people are a rare sight in this day and age. And while we're on the subject, I'm going to show you this:

http://www.somethingawful.com/d/flash-tub/furious-famicom-faggot-4.php

That's the Furious Famicom Faggot, and he's pretty much what the AVGN amounts to, which is an idiot who has no idea what he's talking about. Also, AVGN said the first Ninja Turtles sucked, and he made up a bunch of stuff that wasn't true about it trying to make it look like it sucked, and he's also an idiot, because he complains about seeing a bunch of unfamiliar characters in it, claiming that they weren't in the cartoon, and if he had HALF a brain, he'd know that the first TMNT game was based on the comic book, not the cartoon. And the rest of the review was just him bitching about how much he sucks at it, and I can't believe he couldn't figure out that you could just walk over that gap on that one scene in Stage 3. EVERYONE KNOWS YOU CAN WALK ACROSS THAT GAP! But because he's an idiot, he whines like a little bitch saying "I can't get over this jump", and it took him 15 minutes to figure out you can just walk over it, when everyone else knows you can walk over it. Oh yeah, and he also said that Simon's Quest sucked, and that is unforgiveable. He also said Silver Surfer sucked, which it actually doesn't, and Die Hard for the NES sucks, which is NOT a bad game at all, and is one of the most original and innovative games on the system. And he also must've pissed off a lot of Castlevania fans when he said Simon's Quest sucked, and I don't blame them! He shouldn't be able to say Simon's Quest sucks and live to share it with the whole world. AVGN has no talent. He thinks he's some GAME WIZARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRD or something, and he doesn't know a thing. And how hard is it for someone to play a game and say "f*ck", and curse at it constantly and bitch about how much they suck at the game? Anyone can do that. And because all his fans are sheep, they'll believe anything he says. Even the lies and the fake game flaws he makes up.
