I bought an original 1983 model Famicom (not a FamiCLONE). Hopefully, what they about it being able to work on an NTSC television is true when you put it on Channel 95 or whatever, but it didn't come with an AC Adapter or RF cable, and I had to buy those separately. Now when my cousin or some other japanese-loving friend comes over, I can be like "I got a Famicom, check me out!" or whatever.

Very nice man.  As far as I knew it works because one of this site's fellow members (one that I know in real life) managed to get his working through RF.  Again congrats on joining the Famicom Club.

*sigh*  A while ago I bought a lot of a Famicom, Famicom Disk System, and a ton of games.  The downfall?  My TV doesn't go up to 95 (or 99 i've heard), so i had to buy a 'famiclone' to play the disk system with, and the famicom just collects dust

Could you set your television to a 'cable' setting?  Channels 95 and 96 are outside the range of licensed broadcast frequencies in the US, which is why you wouldn't be able to select 'em, but they are used in cable television signals.

Congrats man but i'd suggest modding it for av if you can  RF can be a pain these days given what it takes to run on a modern tv.Though i don't have to worry about that since i use a famicom av

Ever thinking of selling it and getting a famicom av instead ?

I got something called the Dragon 8 that plays Famicom cartridges with an AV cable. It also came with a converter to play US NES cartridges. It may not be the real deal but it suits my purposes just fine.

An original 1983 model?  Cool!  That's the one with the square A and B buttons right?  I have yet to find one to buy.  However, I hear they are very unreliable.  So it might not be the RF, it might be the unit itself.

I don't want an AV one, because the two Famicom clones I have are AV based, and the music plays the wrong way on them. I can't describe the specific problem, because I don't know what the problem's called.

That's the model i use and it plays every thing prefectly.

MRM if you were having problems playing any game correctly on a famiclone no wounder.

It's the norm for those such as the case with the jpn,CV3 since it runs on the VRC6 chip the music will not play right on a famiclone.

Btw what i was suggesting MRM is having your original famicom modded for av.

Then you wouldn't have to use rf all the time.
