Sega Vision!

Hot on the heels of the DSi, Sega announces their first new hardware since the Dreamcast:
the Vision.

No tech specs yet, but the blurb claims it does, in order:

plays games
read books
record voice

note that playing games ranks 3rd to last.

Sega is not the same Sega we all loved in the 16-bit days. I expected to be disappointed when I read the first article and then was disappointed when I read the second. How can they make a gadget that doesn't play games? (that java crap doesn't count either.) Why not just create a new company?

Meh.  Just another alternative to an Ipod, though one with the interesting twist of an added TV tuner.  If it's of decent quality and reasonably priced, I just might be tempted.

You people expect so much. Sega sells all sorts of crap that isn't games. They've been doing it since the 80s (if not earlier) with those little rip cord powered toy helicopters that folded into a cassette tape form factor. This Sega Vision thing is just a toy you get in a catcher machine. Its cheap. Its not a "PSP Killer" as that stupid site suggested. It certainly isn't any threat to Sony's e-book reader market either (a very niche market with relatively expensive hardware), and anyone who thinks it might be obviously hasn't actually used on of Sony's e-book readers.

Some people are just determined to sensationalize the hell out of anything. For example, the thread mentioning the 16-Shot interview titled "Hudson Returns to Hardware!?" or something like that when it was just some dude who wanted plug and play PCE mentioning how cool it would be.

It wouldn't bother me so much except for in a year the schmucks at IGN are going to be talking about Sega failed in the hardware market yet again with a pathetic attempt to return to hardware, which this never was in the first place.

Oh man, SOZ a l33t insider though, he knows it all man. That why he talks to everyone here like they are teh shit on the bottom of his Nikes. Its not even out yet, but he already knows its a cheap toy and how its going to be marketed as, and what all it can do, even before Sega. SOZ has a third eye for these kinda things yo.
