I think 2D gaming has been perfected, so I can't see why it WOULDN'T play well since it's in 2D. It's 3D gaming that is still in its infancy and that developers are still struggling to come to terms with (particularly in the arena of side-scroller or platformer, as any of the 3D Castlevania or Mario games will attest to).

Meh, 3D has been mainstream now long enough "infancy" is a little much.  While the 3D Castlevanias are no Rondo, or Symphony of the Night, they control decent for 3D.

The 3D Castlevania games are nothing like the original ones. I wouldn't say they control poorly, but they don't control the way the 2D ones do and they aren't any fun because of it. Certain kinds of games just can't be made in 3D.

My point really was that I didn't understand why there was concern over how this game is going to handle since it's in 2D. I thought 2D was well-established by now.

Yet there's still 2D games that suffer from BAD slowdown (see Odin Sphere), which in some instances can be even worse than poor control.  As for the #d Castlevanias (or any series that has transitioned over to 3D) of course they'll control differently than their 2D precusors.  Fun factor attached to that is purely opinion.  You are very right in the fact that some series have made anywhere from an ok, to awful transition from 2D to 3D, but many have done great (Mario Galaxy, etc.).

Oh ok, that makes sense. And I guess considering this is on the Wii, the big question is going to be how it handles, whether in 2D or 3D.

Well i question the controlls since to me 2d is ment to be played, with a controll-pad not a wii remote.

To...me at least but we shall see maybe it will suport both classic controller and remote.

I don't mind slowdown and it rarely ruins gameplay for me. What really affects gameplay is frame dropping and low framerates, which are 3D game problems.

I've been looking forward to this game since it was announced. Haven't played any games in this series before, but they look sweet.

One thing I hate about 3D is the excessive animation. For simple stuff like breathing, there will be so many frames of animation that's ridiculously unrealistic when realism is what 3D is usually aiming for. 2D can suffer this problem too, especially now and days where it's so advanced, but usually artists don't go that overboard since they have to draw all the frames themselves.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

It plays fantastically.  As for the Wii controls, there is no pointing or shaking the controller.  It feels very natural.  I had no issues with slowdown or glitchy movements.  There are so many little touches in the animation I just can't get over how great this game looks.
