Personally, I'm not sure what to think of this. Players of the Ys franchise know that each of the games' charms lie in its focal point on hero, Adol Christian and his adventures along with a vast multitude of fantastic relics, grind-friendly levelling, memorable supporting characters, fast paced action and a great story.
When you take away the story-driving characters for NPCs, it practically alters the story telling elements and makes Ys feel like just another MMORPG franchise.
Because we all know, the Ys series are a story in of themselves that have a strong beginning, middle, and end. There is a reason why they're metaphorically referred to as "books". This game would be more like
The Neverending Story and I'm not sure if it feels well in place for a franchise like
Ys.
