Sega is downsizing
« on: February 11, 2009, 04:49:19 PM »
I stumbled upon this sad news as I was searching for a story to do on my college radio show. Sega is closing arcades, canceling games and laying off hundreds!

ouch.  :(

Maybe this could turn into a good thing - if they lay off their less talented employees. if they lay off the good people, their death spiral will only speed up.

A sad, sad day in Sonic land.  Unfortunately, this probably means that they'll pump out more cheap yet profitable shovelware instead of gambling on expensive quality games.

That really sucks!  However, to me SEGA died when the Dreamcast did.  The day I heard they were pulling out of the Hardware biz was almost as bad as the day I walked into EB and saw that the Turbo Duo was done.  The days of olde are gone for good.

Sega was like a boxer that started out in the small time, and then clawed its way to the top, had all the talent in the world, and them went the distance with the champ for the belt, and after that it went to his head and he started getting into drinking and hookers and ruined himself, and now he is that guy in the back alley who you see all the time but know he will never be a contender again.

So Sega is like Rocky? Or even better Mike Tyson?

The shitty sound quality in some later Sega releases made me want to bite off my own ears. e.g. sega smash pack for dreamcast. :x
