I had one when it was first released back in '93 i think. There is a lot of trash on the system, but there are a few gems too. Tempest 2000, Wolfenstein, and Alien vs. Predator are a few great games. If you get the CD-ROM attachment there is a very decent version of Flashback available :)

I own the Atari Jag+CD and about 47ish games for it. heh. It's a pretty fun system to take a run on and show your friends. However, if you're expecting something magnificent, you will be let down. Most of the games feel unfinished imo, kinda like Atari released the betas and gave up on them. lol. So, buy at your own risk and do so for amusement purposes only.

I have 61 games, I love most of them, but, not in the same way I love games for other systems.  Alot of them do feel kinda, unpolished.

Worth it for Tempest 2000 alone.

I had a Jaguar before and it was a ok machine but if you can get a good deal on one then go for it but be sure to get a copy of Tempest 2000 for it because it is the one game i feel is worth owning a Jag for. :D

Some of the newer games are really cool, like Hyper Force(run & gun) & Skyhammer(if you like PS1 era 3D shmups).

Gogan, what other systems do you own?  I always thought of the Jag as kind of a last ditch console to collect for.  Meaning theres A LOT better out there.

Do you have:
a 3do, Saturn, PS1, or an Amiga?

I'd go with one of those before Jaguar.

Hmm, I think the Jag is better then 3DO, I have about 70 games for 3DO, & there's deffinitly more games I like on Jag.  The Amiga CD32 doesn't seem to have all the much to rave about either, but, I have one anyways.

Don't have any of those, had ps1, but had to sell my "classic systems" a while ago, except my duo of course....the 3do does interest me though! I'm not really a "hardcore gamer" per se, but rather a classic gaming fan that enjoys the older stuff more so than newer gen systems.

I find "rare, sealed" games.....and rip 'em open and play to my hearts content!

I figure the Jaguars should stay in the hands of its fans - it would be wasted on me.

Atari Jaguar fans are a savage lot for sure they are crazier than Sega fanboys(I hope i did not offend the Sega Fanboys and/or Jag fans). :D

jag is alright. i never had one when it was new, or even played one for that matter. just got one recently and...well you definitely have to have an appreciation for what goes into making a videogame to find some enjoyment with these. basically as was said, every game feels very unpolished, unfinished, or just vastly lacking in quality when compared to the more mainstream consoles.

many games suffer from really low frame rates, which is i think the biggest turn off. some games like tempest and rayman are excellent. some, like checkered flag, are not. i actually really like cybermorph and would love to try battlemorph but i dont have a cd.

i got a 3do at the same time and...its terrible. i dont know if its just my console or all 3dos (i could never get a straight answer out of anyone) but they exhibit some serious interlace flicker. the screen practically jumps up and down its so bad, and ive tried it on multiple tvs. it actually looks better on an lcd hdtv simply because it cant flicker. the games more often than not suffer from poor framerates (15-20fps) and nearly every game worth playing has been ported to saturn or ps1. many games have that multimedia cd-rom feel, or just an unfinished unpolished one.

while the jag has a few "true classics" (rayman, tempest, avp...though the first two are on saturn and psx) the 3do's library is largely forgettable.

theyre both neat systems to try out but you might tire of them quickly. i really kinda regret getting them as it was quite a bit of money that couldve been used more productively. and i already have a saturn and ps1. i just didnt know so many of the games were just not worth it. the flicker of the 3do just kills it (gives me a headace), and the low framerates of most jag games kill them too.

i briefly compared tempest 2000 on jag and saturn and if you dont play one, you wont be able to tell what youre missing. i think the saturn has some scoring bugs or differences, the star field patterns seem to be different, and the shading/coloring on the playfield is a little different (jag actually looks better.) the saturn one has a better framerate.
