i briefly compared tempest 2000 on jag and saturn and if you dont play one, you wont be able to tell what youre missing. i think the saturn has some scoring bugs or differences, the star field patterns seem to be different, and the shading/coloring on the playfield is a little different (jag actually looks better.) the saturn one has a better framerate.

I didn't realize that they made Tempest 2k for the Saturn. Is it hard to find?

there are a few copies on ebay in the 20-100 range.

the high side is obviously inflated complete or "sealed" copies. ebay is a mess anymore, but thats another topic entirely.

i dont think its harder than any typical us saturn release to find. i believe it was released in japan as well as the uk.

Hyper Force(run & gun)

More like "walk & gun". Seriously though, it looks like Zillion, which isn't a bad thing.

Skyhammer(if you like PS1 era 3D shmups)

I still haven't played it on real hardware, but it looks more like Metal Head 32X, without the floors.

I recently got back into Jaguar after picking up a console and 10 games or so. I loved Doom and Wolfenstein back in the day, but only got to rent a few others before going back to playing games for more mainstream systems. After getting the new system recently, I held off from playing it until I got an S-Video cable. In the meantime I checked out youtube videos for most of the games I now have and was pretty excited to play them.

However, once I did, I was disappointed. Most were less impressive in person and were hard to control. I'm probably going to buy a new pad to see if that helps, but as it is, I can't control Raiden or Trevor McFur properly.

Having S-Video and a good TV, along with a decent selection of games, the Jaguar does feel much more powerful than it did originally, but the games still make it look underutilized.

I also got a 3DO back around the time I had my first Jaguar (1997'ish) and it was way more impressive and there were more games that I was interested in. Wolfenstein looked almost like a generational leap over the Jag version. I never did get to try the awful Doom port. I don't need to play every Jag game to know that I'd rather play Lucienne's Quest, SSFIIX and Policenauts. Many of the better Jaguar games are ones I'm really not into, but there are many more decent 3DO games that I'd give a shot.

Don't get me wrong about the 3DO, there are games I love.  Lucienne's Quest comes to mind, along with Ice Breaker, Captain Quazar, & probably Policenaugts if someone ever releases an english patch!

Keep in mind that many of the games released for the Jaguar were conversions from the Panther. This is especially true for early Jaguar games.

Man, the memories of that system are just painful! :x

I remember going to my local Microplay a decade and a half ago just to try the sucker out.  They had ZOOL: Intergalactic Ninja on play and the control scheme was just flat out broken.  I'm still not sure to this day if the broken controls on the controller was from Atari's shoddy design or someone at Microplay just abused it too much. :-k

Wasn't surprised the system tanked.  How the hell could Atari go against juggernauts like Nintendo and Sega?
