Necromancer, I really think you need to work on your sarcasm detection.  Stop taking everything so seriously.  :)

That's me - 200% serious, 400% of the time.  :-"

I just checked the Apple store and the top graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB, not NVidia GT120.

But you can get up to four GT120s, which I'd guess would be capable of outrunning a single 4870.  Unless of course Macs aren't SLI capable, which would make them even less 'pro'.

I hope you're joking, as being less of a target does not equal being impervious to attack.

And as the Apple market share begins to rise, so will the instances of viruses. Virus writers just haven't been interested in discovering the vulnerabilities of the Mac OS, since not many people owned Macs. The Mac OS isn't inherently impervious to malware, and if/when I ever buy a Mac I will be running it with an antivirus program. I've even heard about iPods that have been known to get malware from iTunes. Nothing is safe. I'd run an antivirus on Linux.

And besides, there are tons of free pr0n sites that don't have malware.

Yeah, the market isn't quite big enough for the people who make anti-virus software to spend time coming up with mac-specific viruses just yet.  Maybe soon, but ya never know.

Exactly. I've seen Mac's brought down by viruses; It's not pretty. I fixed a G4 that was completely taken out by malware.

The last time Avast's Linux edition had an update was 2007, when like the 78th virus was added. You don't even really need it but can install it if you want to be l33T.

I will always recommend using Linux for bittorrent. Relatively Safe. Much safer than a Mac.

The problem with bittorrents is if, say, you are illegally downloading software for Windows, you'd need Windows to install it.  Can virus check programs check uninstalled data to see if it would install malware?  I'd definitely pirate anti-virus programs because I have a hunch that they have a hand in creating many of the viruses in the first place.  It's their bread and butter, after all.

Holy crap on a cracker!  You still play that game!?  That's f*cking awesome!  I haven't played UO since 99'.   Good times.

Anyways, I find the expensiveness of mac hardware no matter what it is utterly rediculous.  I just bought a old laptop to just mess around on and use as a MAME machine.  I have it hooked up to my standard TV.  MAME looks really pretty on it with those scanlines! =D  I bought my laptop for 80 bucks!  It's a 3ghz p4 Toshiba Satellite with 1gb of ram (just DDR though) and has a 128 meg NVidia GeforceFX card.  It's old but does what I want it to do.  Surf the net, do some light 3d work, play old games, and use as an olschool emulation machine.  I have yet to find a G3 laptop for mac that costs less than 200 bucks that "works" or even comes close to the specs I have for the price I got.  It's Macs viral marketing and mainstreaming from making iPods that keeps the value of their old G3/G4 laptops up in price.

speak of the devil again.   Someone called me up and said "my mac broke, do you know how to fix it?"

i said "well if you broke it Id say its fixed.   Theres this nice sale at best buy on HP and Sony laptops"

though I ended up going over, they managed to get their osx install to refuse to boot and just do some wannabe BSOD crap followed by the pinwheel of doom.

reinstalling osx is funny.

its a dent to the ego of any macfan.

I wouldn't say he's any worse than Apple's marketing or the zealots that eat that shit up.
