I try to complete RPG's to 100% so easy games are fun to blow off steam.

some RPGs , the 100% completion is just stupid.  Like FFXII.

Well, that game was just stupid in general though......

I guess I dont understand whats so great about gathering stupid items, or beating meaningless bosses.

Its like an MMO without the online part.

In general:

There is no such thing as a meaningless boss!

You beat those bastards because you want to see what they're like and, well, because you can kill for the sake of killing.

Collecting weapons has a small payoff, but I only find it fun when it is "fresh" and requires a sidequest exploring a new area (or an area that was previously inaccessible).

Oh, I should mention that I haven't played FFXII.

i just mean like, STUPID items.

Kind of like twilight princess.

DiD YOU FIND ALL THE BUGS!!?!?!

I dont find it really fun to run around a game and spend hours and hours finding BUGS.

The only games with sidestuff that I ever really thought were alright were ffvii, since the side stuff involved actually DOING stuff, like going aboard a crashed plane underwater, or unlocking a safe and killing a boss, etc.  Even the mindless golden saucer stuff was at least minigames.  You arent just mindlessly walking around hoping you find stuff.  Youre mindlessly playing arm wrestling and snowboarding.

and Lunar 2.  Whole side dungeons that didn't even need to be explored..

..... plus Bromides.  :-D

all that mindless scavenger hunting should be piled up into one game on the Wii, and be called "Old guy at the park: THE GAME"

and come with a metal detector attachment for the WiiMote.   :-"

Plus, FF12 was so bad that it seemed like there was more time put into the side "content", that the actual game suffered from too many problems/poor game system ideas to even be worth beating..

Well I think most people bought Demons Souls thinking it would just be another hack/slash game.  It's definitely not.  I think the challenge is not bad.  People are crying cause it's not crazy easy like a new Ninja Gaiden or some other *insert you hack/slash game here*.  I like games that give a challenge as long as the game is designed right.  I remember games on the Amiga and ST that were just rediculously hard.  So hard that they were just bad games.  Demons Souls is kind of like Valis III with the water level.  You just need a bit of strategy to make it through.  Maybe not the best example, but that's how I feel about it.

Now a game that I find as a huge challenge is Last Battle/Fist of the North Star and Thunderforce IV.  Undeadline is also another crazy hard game on the MD.  Surprisingly I don't find to many games on the PCE that are crazy hard.  I'm sure there are.  I just have yet to play them.

glad to see we can agree sometimes, despite my obnoxious tendencies.

Yknow after OLD GUY AT THE PARK comes out they could do the sequel and call it OLD DUDE AT THE BEACH.

watch this actually happen and come out for the Wii.

It is funny seeing a post like this since I have been hurting myself with some games lately. I have been on a space shooter kick lately. I have mostly been playing Super Star Soldier, Gradius 2 (Duo CD) and Einhander for the PS1.

I got to the last level on SSS and would loose some of my hits on the green robot with shooting hands. Then, I totally get my ass handed to me on either the green thing with spinning arms shooting missiles or the big eyed monster. When you loose your weapon power, your in a world of pain. I gave the f*ck up after 20 continues.

On Gradius 2, you gotta play on normal I guess to get an ending after of course beating it with some challenge on easy. So I play on normal and realize just how much harder the game gets. I got pissed and gave up when I got to the walking crab since there are enemies shooting at you while you maneuver under its legs.

Einhander I have beaten my Japanese copy plenty of times back in 97-99. The bosses can just be randomly cheap at times. There are moments in the game where it seems impossible to dodge some of the attacks. Right now I keep loosing half my continues following a game over on the walking ape like boss that throws boxes at you.

What doesn't make sense is that I can beat Thunder Force 4, Gate of Thunder, Phalanx, Gradius 3 (SNES on hard), Lords of Thunder (Duo) without nearly as many problems.

I don't continue when I play shooters.  I really like to give myself a challenge.  It also makes a lot of my games last longer.  It took me months to beat a lot of shooters that way.  I did always find myself eager to come back for the challenge.  Well for most of the good shooters anyways.  That's one reason I find Thunderforce 4 so damn hard.  I can play most cave shooters fine and beat them on at least normal without continuing.  Must be the hit box in Thunderforce 4 or lack there of.  There's also plenty of shooters I have owned for years that I still have yet to beat.  Ikaruga is one of them.  The whole chain/pattern stuff makes my brain hurt.  It's a good game though so I still pick it up and have a crack at it.

Neither do I.  In fact if a particular shooter sets you back, takes all of your weapons and speed when you die (like R-Type), I turn off or reset the game when I lose my first life.

I do not like Cave or other "bullet hell" shooters with the 1-pixel-wide hit box.  If a bullet touches my ship, I should blow up.  I don't even understand the point of "bullet hell" shooters.

Old Rover gets it.

In fact, he was the first (and only) person who explained how the two special punches were "activated".

Let's see: allow yourself to get hit once, then giganto-punch occurs? Get hit twice and fists-of-fury occurs? Jesus, I can't remember!
