That's cool, though I doubt it will amount to anything more than them releasing Cosmic Fantasy 2 and Valis II and III on the Virtual Console.  Who knows though, maybe we'll get lucky and they'll translate the rest of the Cosmic Fantasy and Valis series and bring 'em over.... fingers crossed for X.

Well, now I'm interested!

Although, if CF 1 and 2 get released on VC in the US...well, I can already see the thread where people complain about the 1 out 5 rating from such-and-such mainstream video game site. Part three is much better, although a horrible grind. Maybe they can just skip to 4.

Wait, does 4 have boobies in it? I think it does. Its been ten years at least since I played them. If so then...he may as well release them as PCE ISOs because Nintendo isn't going to pass it.

OK, maybe this is just one of those BS things from Vic (like Lunar 3 for PS).

Telenet?  Wow I sure hope they bring back the mega-awesome Valis 2!  I cannot believe the same company made Gaiares.  Maybe we can get a Last Alert 2... with the same US voice actors!  That would be too awesome.

Here's some info from Vic!

"No specific titles were announced, but Ireland is keen on Cosmic Fantasy. “Cosmic Fantasy has a special place in it since we were only able to do two [in the series],” Ireland said when we asked him about revisiting the series. “I really like 1, 3, 4A, and 4B and were only able to do one of those chapters. To be able to revisit that would be fantastic, but the rights are really a problem.”"

Sounds to me like they're going to put the finishing touch's on CF3 & release it on VC!  Though I'd prefer a proper release, this makes me wonderfully happy!  When I used to talk to Don(or was it Leroy?) Shirley, I think he mentioned that CF3 was close to finished, but, the Turbo was dead by then.

Sunsoft now has the Telenet library!!

That's great news.  :D

Indeed it is.

For the naysayers: At least Telenet's IP isn't floating around in limbo, or, worse yet, in the portfolio of a random conglomerate that has absolutely no interest in video games.

Plus, we might get lucky: At least one Telenet IP might be dragged from its grave and given a chance to live again.

Late to the party but...

AWESOME NEWS that the Nihon Telenet catalog had been rescued! Words can't describe my happiness in the fact that we'll finally get to see the great CD games of the Turbo finally released on the VC, some for the very first time! :D

Already registered on Sunsoft's official forums to express my gratitude! 8)

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

Apparently Ireland wants to put 'em out on real media (as taken from here):

And Vic, will there ever be any games with physical media, or is Sunsoft going an all digital route? Just wondering.

Initially digital media, but physical media is probable once the US office is firmly established again.

Since guy and nec are confused by the internetz:

Quote
SUNSOFT RESURRECTS TELENET'S TROVE OF SO-SO GAMES
Sunsoft teased a big announcement through Vic Ireland's Gaijinworks studio last week, and it was a genuine surprise: Sunsoft now has the rights to Telenet Japan's entire catalog. For those who never grew up in the Sega Genesis era, Telenet was a prominent Japanese publisher, putting out Cosmic Fantasy, the Valis series, Exile, Earnest Evans, Granada, and plenty of other games. Most of the games from Telenet (and their sub-developer Wolfteam) weren't very good, and yet the company won over many Americans through its Renovation label, which introduced many a young geek to big-eyed anime stylings. So there were a few mourners when Telenet, after years of doing nothing, closed down in 2007.

And now, Telenet's catalog is back. Ireland extols its virtues in the official press release, since he actually localized two Exiles and one Cosmic Fantasy back when he was running Working Designs. Sunsoft plans to release Telenet games on the Wii's Virtual Console next year, with open invitations for fans to request specific titles on Sunsoft's forums.

[Vincente DeMarco was originally Al Capone, but Renovation had some overly careful lawyers.]

For starters, fans could ask for El Viento (above), my favorite Telenet/Wolfteam title and the only good part of the Earnest Evans franchise. There's also the Exile series, still unique among RPGs for setting an anime-ish adventure during the Crusades. And then there's Cosmic Fantasy 2, a mediocre RPG that was nonetheless the bearer of the first gratuitous shower scene the West ever saw in an RPG. That's a piece of history.

[I would play this if it had a crazed, Working Designs-like translation full of jokes about soup commercials and Clinton and muff(in) diving.]

There's no word on whether or not the Telenet deal also includes the pornographic Valis Xadventure games released by Eants, and I know that some of you care about that.

The words in brackets are the creative titles for pics of El Viento and Valis X:lol:
