Recently I have discovered a nice player and sound archive to be able to listen to a sheer unimaginably big amount of Japanese x68000 and other arcade/console FM tunez, using the famous MDX file format.

So it's quite easy, and here is what you have to do:

Download the following two rar files shown below and unzip it onto your computer (Win PC only).

(you need only those two files)

http://www42.tok2.com/home/mdxoarchive/arc_file/mdxo_mxdrv_complete.ra_ (music archive)

http://www42.tok2.com/home/mdxoarchive/arc_file/mxdrvg.ra_ (player)

from http://www42.tok2.com/home/mdxoarchive/

How to make it run:

The file extension *.ra_ has to be changed into *.rar before it can be unzipped (unrar'd).

You have to start the mxv.exe as this is the visual player.

For open a tune, you have to right-click on the GUIs surface and choose the top menu. Then browse to the location where you have stored the unzipped MDX files from the "MDXO_Mxdrv_complete.rar" file.

Here's a screen shot of the players GUI:

Important note:

The players GUI is supporting japanese Language only. Except the case you're using a Japanese OS or you have changed the OS Language settings to Japanese, you have to rename every folder using Japanese characters, into romaji (latin letters).

e.g. 大魔界村 → Daimakaimura (or any kind of name not including Japanese characters would be fine).

Here is one other setting for obtaining a better sound output:

-right-click on the GUIs surface
-choose the 4th menu from top
-out of this, choose the middle menu (mxv...)
-a new windows-tab will be opened, choose the right one (MXDRV..)
-activate [48KHz] and checkmark the [ROMEO] field.
-[OK]

That's it!

I have quite some fun with this player as it offers you thousands of Japanese game tunez in an amazing quality, which you probably could never hear before.
Lissen also to thousands of MD, MSX, FC, SFC etc. tunes in a complete new and clear quality (f.E. check out the Thunder Force BGMs).

Also funny is the Keyboard feature, which lets you know of which notes are played in realtime. So that easy teaches you some nice accords for your own keyboard practice etc.

If you have any questions or concerns, please ask me at any time :)

Hav fun!
