VC Titles not working with component
« on: July 10, 2010, 12:42:08 AM »
I recently bought a new HD-ready TV with Wii Component cables to match, and although the resolution is way better now, my NES, SNES, MD (and perhaps TG-16) VC titles won't work anymore. When I start them the screen will blink on and off on a frozen image. How can I fix this? Setting my TV-type back to 60Hz (480i) doesn't work. Do I have to plug my RGB-cable back in just to play these VC games?

PS. I wasn't sure which board to post this, but I figured Wii hardware was a safe bet.

EDIT:: I checked the RGB cable on my new TV but it wouldn't give a clear image on my VC games either.

This, uh, sounds like your TV. I have a high-def TV that my Wii w/component cables is hooked up to and it works great for all VC titles: NES, SNES, TG-16, NeoGeo, you name it.

you should try interlace mode. Run the game, then press home to bring up the operations guide. Connect a nunchuck to your wiimote and press Z on the chuck, and A and 2 on the wiimote simultaneously. I had this issue with a Neogeo game, and it fixed it right up.

Whatever the issue is, it has nothing to do with running in component. I bought the (OEM) component cable when I got my Wii And have only used that cable for everything, Wii games, Neo Geo and TG16 games, Netflix, Cube, whatever. No issues.

I'd say your TV sucks. Many do weird things to 240p signals as part of the upscaling.

Yeah, some TVs are known to have problems while using component cables due to the unusual resolutions. This was a problem for a lot of people with Neo-Geo games on the Wii in particular. Either switch to a different type of video signal or try another TV.

Well damn..  I recently bought the component cables, but never tried my VC games.  Well, they wont work...  :(  Game tried to start, then I get no picture, just sound.  Looks like I will be disposing of these cables for now.  I dont get why it wont work, but oh well.  For whatever reason, it just doesnt.  f*ckSHIT!!!!!!

Found this on Nintendo's site.  Anyone tried this?  I am ready to just hook my composite back up...
Display Problems While Playing Virtual Console Games
Situation:

•Wii console display issues (dim, blank or half-blank screen, ghosted image, etc.) with a Virtual Console game

Information:

•Some Virtual Console games default to displaying 240 lines of video and some HD TV's are unable to display a signal with only 240 lines.

What To Do:

1.Set the Wii console to output 480 lines of video. (How To)

2.While on the Wii Channel Menu (main screen of the Wii), connect a Nunchuk to Wii Remote.

3.Select the Virtual Console game from the Wii menu, then select "Start" to begin the game.

4.When the game starts, press the Home button on the Wii Remote. (In many games, the music can be heard when the game starts.)

5.Select "Operations Guide" from the Home menu.

6.Press the Z + A + 2 Button simultaneously (the Z Button is on the Nunchuk). A sound will be heard if the button combination has been entered correctly.

7.Close the Home menu. The game display should now be correct.

Bernie, send the cables to me. I'm pretty sure they won't work for you! :)
