If you're of a certain age, there was one console you wanted more than any other: a Neo Geo. It was so big, so dark, and so freaking expensive it was like a gadget from another time --yet there it was, looking down at you from behind the counter at Babbage's. $649 in 1990? Yeah. Ouch. Anyway, people today can now experience that machine's greatness for a much lower price, with the PlayStation Network receiving 10 of the system's greatest hits, each selling for between $6.99 and $8.99. Yes, these games were already available on the Wii Virtual Console, but the PSN versions will support online competitive and co-operative play, which is truly worth getting excited about. All games will be hitting the PS3 on December 21, while Fatal Fury and Metal Slug will be hitting the PSP then as well. For other games, like Magician Lord and Lord and Super Sidekicks, you portable folks will just have to wait until January.

Eww, now that's exciting stuff. Playing some of those epic fighters online against others online sounds fun. Once they launch the Samurai Shodown games, I will definitely consider purchasing a PS3. But I'm not about to ditch my precious Neo Geo AES carts, no sir.  [-X  They are like precious works of art sitting on my shelf.   :)

SignofZeta: What a quintessentially PCEFX thread. Someone complains about nothing, multiple Bible-length posts discussing who's a bigger a$$hole follow. You're both pretty big a$$holes. Let's call it a tie.

I wonder how long they will take to get to the super high end titles from later years. Neo Geo games have been coming out on Wii for quite a while now, and I think the fanciest thing they have so far is KOF 95.

Since I own an MVS (and most other VC systems) I don't buy stuff like this often. I bought Iron Clad though, which was never officially released on cart, so IMO this is a valuable service. I can't see myself buying another NG game for a download service again until they get some more fancy shit like Rage of Dragons or Matrimelee, stuff that would be 10x as expensive to own MVS carts of.

Matrimelee's not that expensive, only a couple hundred bucks.

Most MVS games are less than $50, so I consider a couple of hundred a lot...especially compared to $12, which is what it would cost for Wii, if it ever came out. Its also not exactly my favorite Neo Geo game. Its nice, I like it, but I only paid $70 for KOF 2003, and $25 for Real Bout 2, both of which I like a lot more than Matrimelee.

Nice though i'll hang onto my cmvs i still got a big collection of games for it.Still the xbal has had it for years now.So it's nice to see the psn getting the suport from, snkp finally.I may download what's offer any ways "when it comes to fighters" i see onlineplay as a nice bonus.

Btw i hope the online part has a good code for the psn.I've heard how terrible it turned out for the xbla with the lagg and all.

Very cool. Seems to be more and more reasons to pick a PS3 up. :)

I think there might be a couple updated classic games on XBL. The Wii has had Neo Geo for a while, but not online. I wish they would do this for some Turbo games. Dungeon Explorer online?  =P~

Here are the titles available for xbla. I have Sam Show II but that's it.

http://xbla.snkplaymoreusa.com/index.php

So yes xbla has had this for years but what is interesting is the total number of  titles will be matched by psn next month. Xbla has better titles overall so hopefully PSN gets those soon. I haven't had a chance to do online with Sam Show II. :-(

I hope so, too. Just for the sake of cross-platform accessibility. Every system has certain exclusives, but third party exclusives should be kept to a minimum. People shouldn't be punished for preferring one console over the other.

I have always loved those first couple of neogeo games that got posted which are coming soon to psn, but why does SNK always release the same "early" games for every online download system or snk collection pack?  Why can't they release later titles early on?  I know when it comes to the Wii and VNC it's probably a problem with the Wii not having enough ram to load the games.  One reason it's early titles.  I wish we could get later releases or even mid releases earlier on.  I would love some Ninja Masters.  Yeah the 360 has some recent games but at least on PSN it's free to play online.  Another good thing about neogeo coming to ps3 is that there is now a nice official neogeo snk controller.
