I wish they would develop these games for a console. I don't much care for portable RPGs.
i love them, but i always have trouble playing through them.
EXCEPT on my psp, as i can just use TV cables. :D

Yeah I read about doing that. Maybe I should get a PSP before they leave the shelves.

I'm sure this game is nice and all, but it looks absolutely nothing like what I would identify as Ys. The only reason I know it is Ys is because I've been told that it is. If I were told it was a game called "Gatling Heat: Final Fantasy XIII-3: Artifice Reticulum"* I'd believe that too.

* This is less stupid that the actual names of some FF games lately.

Hmm, I'd say atleast the artwork looks like Ys, & I'm sure the music will all sound like Ys, unless they really change it up!

Yeah I wasn't sure how I'd feel about Ys Seven when I played it.  I didn't particularly care for how the 3d characters were.  It seemed like a stray away from the early stuff.  Even with the recent engine used in Napishtim, Felghana, and Origins, it looked and felt like an Ys game.  However after playing Ys Seven I really got into it and it did have that Ys feel to it.  Especially with the boss encounters.

More Ys & Falcom info:

Falcom shares latest on Ys Vita, plans continued development for PSP

Falcom has been one of the PSP's biggest supporters, and even with the system's successor coming out later this year, that support won't be letting up. In a Dengeki PlayStation interview this week, CEO Toshihiro Kondo reveals that his company is developing a PSP game alongside PlayStation Vita's Ys Celceta Sea of Trees. Kondo also hints that the PSP title may come out ahead of the Vita Ys game.

Celceta Sea of Trees, which was announced at Tokyo Game Show a couple of weeks back, is the main focus of Dengeki's Falcom coverage this week. A few intriguing points from the Kondo interview include:

- The game will offer a refreshing/invigorating gameplay feel that is far beyond that of Ys VII.
- On PSP, Falcom had to lower their sound quality due to memory constraints. This is not a problem on Vita.
- The camerawork will be more dynamic than that of Ys VII.
- They're planning on improving the visual quality straight through the end of development with things like effects.

Ys Celceta Sea of Trees is targeted for Vita release in 2012.

And some more!

Here's some more info on the touch functionality of the game (and some story tidbits)
http://andriasang.com/comyc4/
Ys Celceta Sea of Trees: Use the PS Vita's Rear Touch Screen to Give Commands to your Allies

Here's how Falcom plans on making use of the PlayStation Vita's special hardware features in Ys Celceta Sea of Trees, as detailed by CEO Toshihiro Kondo on the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation.

Falcom will be putting the system's touch capabilities to full use. The rear touch panel can be used to issue commands to your allies. Touch is also being used for camera perspective, zooming in and out, and puzzle solving.

The Vita's advanced hardware is also benefitting the game. Character modeling is more detailed. Camera work promises to be more dynamic than that of Ys Seven. Music and environmental sound effects will be clearer, as they don't have to downgrade their samples (compared to the limitations they encountered on the PSP).

The more powerful hardware is also adding to gameplay, as the game can show more monsters simultaneously. In addition to having lots of giant beasts on the screen simultaneously, they can also have many minions surrounding giant bosses.

Kondo provided only a few hints about how the game will use the Vita's wireless capabilities. They're currently doing experimentation, but they'd like to have such things as boss time attacks.

Kondo also shared a few bits about the game's story. Main character Adol is still in his teens in Celceta Sea of Trees. This ends up being his second major adventure, and an episode that serves to form his identity as an adventurer.

One key element of the story will be Adol's memory loss. This will also feature in the gameplay, as Adol will recall things as you advance in the maps.

As 2012 is the 25th anniversary of the Ys series, Falcom is targeting a 2012 release for Ys Celceta Sea of Trees.

Woohoo!  Coming to a Vita near you(in Japan) in Setember, I think it looks great, seems like they've beefed up the gfx significantly since those early pictures

Also, Xseed is going to be announcing 2 more games soon, & they are supposed to both be sequals to games that they have released in teh last couple years!  I say Ys 4 is one of them, hopefully they'll announce a date for Legend of Heroes:Trails in the Sky 2 as the other title they're announcing!

Edit-found more screenshots, this game is looking beautiful, though I'm also excited to hear how JDK does the ost.

As much as I hate to admit it, I'd be a LOT more excited for Legend of Heroes:Trails in the Sky 2 right now.  First game was INCREDIBLE.

I bitch about this all the time but I really wish Falcom and co. would please release some of these games on a console! I don't like playing RPGs on a handheld. It's not natural.

Atleast it's on a dedicated portable, rather then on a tablet or PC.  Yeah, I'd love to see some console Falcom games, no doubt, but I'll settle for these.  Ocoarse, even if any of these are on a PC(with Steam, probably the route they'll go for Trails 2), that'd still be better then tablet gaming, atleast for me.  I don't have a tablet, & have 0 interest in getting one, but I fear tablets & smart phones may be killing true portables. ](*,)

There was supposed to be an X68000 Ys 4, as there is a soundtrack for it, & it has the track for Arem!

Are you talking about the JDK Special disc? Because it sounds like Mega Drive sound to me and the not like X68000, PC-88/98, etc. The SMS PSG in particular isn't on those other platforms. Plus, I've never seen anything about Ys IV being announced bitd for anything other than Mega Drive, PCE & SFC.

The sound on JDK Special is produced with the X68000's built-in FM board, but the game was never planned for release on X68000. The composer preferred to compose on the X68000 hardware, and that is the only reason the original compositions are on X68000. This is (mostly) explained in the liner notes.

Is their some kind of kanji used for "X68000"? Does anyone actually "say this the leftover X68000 music" or just "I like to compose on the X68000"? I've read many interviews over the years in which game composers mention the gear that they compose on before programming the music into the console hardware.

Whatever may or may not be spelled out in the manual, the music still sounds unlike every X68000 recording I've found online and at the same time, many parts sound straight out of a Genesis game.

Well, I will admit the screens do look pleasing, but they should have just made a new Y's game instead of rehashing the SNES game. Notice the art with the volacno, and tree. Seriously, they go cheap, and decided to create a photoshoped, image instead of a airbrushed one.

Y's 4 on the PCE is the end of Y's, for PC-NEC people, who by this time were making their own games.
