Mathius' "You're Favorite Sega Dreamcast Imports" Thread
« on: January 18, 2012, 04:49:32 PM »
I am soon to be an owner of a Dreamcast that can play imports. Barring the obvious choices of the post-mortem Dreamcast shooter line-up like Border Down, and Last Hope, which import games would you recommend? I have one that I am keeping an eye on, but it's going to be expensive. Until then...

If you like racers, Daytona USA is a must! One of only three games I imported for mine. Phantasy Star Online, Daytona, and Shenmu 2. All three are fantastic games! I used one of those utopia boot disks (think that's what they are called) to play mine though. Haven't touch my poor dreamcast in a while though. Been too consumed in Turbob gaming.

Ikaruga is essential.

Played the xbox arcade demo version, which I'm sure does the game no justice. Game was still sweet though.

It was probably a decent port, but it's a game that pushes the Dreamcast to it's limits. It's one of the few DC games I've played that actually can cause some slowdown on the system. I have a ton of other suggestions for the DC but most of my favorites have been release outside of Japan such as Bangai-O, Tech Romancer, Rez, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, Bust a Move 4, Dynamite Cop, King of Fighters Dream Match 1999, etc.

Thanks for the responses guys!

The key word in the title of this thread is "imports". If it was released in NA then I probably know about it. Let's keep it import only.

Shenmue 2 (PAL) would be an import, just not from the right place =) I haven't been really impressed with the Dreamcast since I picked one up last year. It's obviously a sweet console, but I find that I'm not very interested in the polygon/3d games (which seems to be the majority of the library). I've gotten much more mileage out of my Saturn.

Ah yes. Shenmue II would be an import. And an expensive one at that if I get the PAL version. I played, beat, and loved the first Shenmue so Shenmue II is a definite once I get the $$.

if you're looking for some shmuppage, try Karous and Radilgy, my two faves on the system

Oh yeah, Radilgy is a good one- especially if you are the type or person who will turn a tv sideways for a video game.

are there people who won't?
besides, DC is best when played on a VGA monitor, so even better.
