Probably more then any Bonk game(well, except maybe the arcade one), this game needs a remake. It's kinda boring thruout, & yeah, the music for the most part doesn't do it. There are a few good songs, the slow space theme is cool, as is the factory theme(also used for that basketball mini game), but most songs are Bonkish, at all! Some songs are downright horrible! Also, the colors are wayyyy too drab, there's WAYYY too many bonus levels, Bonk maybe moves a lil too slow. Could probably use a slghtly faster spin as well. They also didn't do a very good job with the detail of the gfx. There's alot of drab looking tiles in general that don't mesh with the more Bonkish stuff. Look at the buildings in the far bg, they look terrible & un-Bonkish. I also don't like most of the sounds. Ofcoarse, Bonk 3 had already done away with the classic sounds, but a few of them were similar. This one's sounds are...kinda all over the place.
Maybe someday, someone will pick this game up & rebuild it from scratch, & make it the game it should've been.
As for Super Bonk 2, it's pretty cool, deffinitly has the colors, & the sounds are more inline with the earlier Bonks. I love most of the music, though I wish there were some more serious tunes beside all the wacky ones. I don't like how they got rid of the system where, when Bonk dies, he starts up again right where he died. That needs to be remedied, & maybe throw in a few more bonus levels. I like that he can run. I don't like that when he hits a ceiling, it kinda sticks to it for a split second. It slows down the gameplay.
You should try the first 2 Gameboy Bonks, they're fairly decent, though, not without there flaws. Bonk GB 1 is pretty much a retelling of the original Bonk. Bonk GB 2 is a little different, it could've used some mini games instead of the 1 on 1 think with Cyber Bonk. I'm not sure if I like the 3 abilities in it, I think they should've done more with them.
It's a shame that Kaneko & Hudson never brought the arcade Bonk to the Turbo, I guess there was some thought of doing that at one point. However, the game just isn't suited for normal gaming. It's more of a competition type game(in the arcade, you would win prizes). It'd be cool to take the gfx & music, & make a new game out of it. Maybe include stuff from the 3rd GB Bonk to use as bonus games.....not to mention, make it so Bonk can spin!!
