I want to make a port for player 1, the port only works for player 2

Nomads already come with a controller port

The thing is when you turn the Nomad on you get the AV the upper right

The LCD used have two video inputs. If you can find one that only takes one input, you won't have that problem. So far I found only the 2.5lcds that have one composite video input and that doesn't display the "AV1".

Is there a way to get an LCD screen replacement to work with RGB or even S-video at least? I keep seeing composite video is only mentioned.

If the screen supported it no problem, but at this size most don't. My PS1 screen does RGB but it is 5".

Composite on a new LCD is a major upgrade from the stock screen.

Is the composite in a Nomad due to the CXA1645 much better than the Genesis 1 and 2 models? If so, then that level of composite video is definitely superior. Up there with the Sega Saturn composite out I would hope.

Ok installed the P1 port in the controller. Troubleshooting though because Up / Down doesn't work now....

Also if you look at the middle of the system you can see the reset button (it's silver colored). You can also use an OR gate for switchless, but it just isn't the same when playing X-Men and you have to "reset the computer." Gawd that had me stuck forever.... lol

UPDATE: ok it works properly now, I found out that the onboard controls have to be disabled. At first I thought they didn't because everything worked fine. So here is how it works:

In the place of the brightness controlls is now a slide switch. Sliding to the right turns off the screen, and enables DB9 port. Sliding to the left enables screen and onboard controls. I figured if I am playing on the go I won't really need another controller hooked up, but at home if playing on the Big TV, save some battery and use a nice 6 Button controller.

Ok some finished pics of the additional mods.

Here you can see the P1 controller port, and also the physical reset button. Also the brightness wheel was replaced with an on/off switch for the LCD, for improved battery time when hooked up to a TV. The reset button is resessed enough that it won't be accidentally pushed. You have to give it a good press with your finger.

And here you can see the S-video port and also the LCD buttons to control the brightness and screen settings:

Hey thanks a ton, i really appreciate that. Will do another vid soon showcasing how all the new mods work. We took this system to my in-laws and my kids and their cousins were all fighting over the two controllers. Its cool to see them retro game as a break from their normal Wii gaming habits.

Time to get a Sega Multitap next time for some Bomberman action!

Nice work bro!!! I only did the LCD mod on my nomad. The extra controller port is a nice touch. I will eventually do that on mine.
