It plays NES games while they're still in their sleeve!?  That thing is incredible!

J/K - Any way you can post a YT video of it in action?  I've always been intrigued by the Game Axes.

I want one of these to play famicom games, but they're ass-rape expensive.  As a portable NES though?  Pass.  Until they create a handheld NES that doesn't require the cartridges to stick off the top of the system...
Play Turbografx.
Play the Turbografx. PLAY
THE TURBOGRAFX!!!!!!

Buh buh buh, I have almost all teh games evar.  I R TEH BESTEST COLLECTR!!

The sleve adaptor was actually my invention to keep the game stable using the famicon to nes pin adapter. it works pretty well but not perfect. i have been playing earthbound, a nes repo. it works very well. the gameaxe is not a nes emulator, its nes hardware, and plays every nes game ever made that i can see. I will try to get up a screenshot of it in action. I'm alittle drunk so that has to wait. All i can tell you is that, as a collectible the gameaxe is ok. as a portable nintendo, it would suck without thesteve's screen mod.

Hany eagerly requests, "Can we see some pictures of the screen in action? Please follow the "crotch shot" formula of composition you established in the first photo. Thank you."

It works great with Famicom games, but with an adapter and huge NES cart sticking out the top, it's hardly portable anymore.

Well I decided to just use my crap camera and take this pic for now. unfortunately the camera is 10 years old and i could not turn the flash off. its technically not portable at all with the adapter. it wiggles around so much that games reset or glitch. fitting the nintendo sleeve into the cart slot takes up the space between the slot and the adapter. It also extends up far enough to reduce wiggle on the cart itself. I'm pretty proud of it, as it was a cheap fix and works pretty well. i am open to ideas though as i would like a better solution.

When I managed a GameXChange way back in 2000 we carried these Game Axe Color things. I cant remember if we got them from Yobos or what though. To be honest over half of them were DOA or had other issues going on, so we didn't order anymore. I thought it was a interesting unit and all, but really they were not built that well.

Yes, I can agree to the wigglyness of the Game Axe, it's quite frusterating.  It stinks that it needs some sort of planks or something to hold an NES game in place. ](*,)

The problem with the gameaxe build wise is the lamp for the backlight. redant did not bother to put some kind of foam or shim to keep the lamp from moving around in the unit.  The main reason all gameaxe's broke is due to this lamp shattering. Otherwise the rest of it is reasonably made. Put a new screen in one, and 90% of all your problems go away. Now i just need to engineer some kinda of better cartridge docking rig.

Oh no we had many more problems then that. Actually, we never had any with bad backlights anyway. We had units that just flat out were dead, or had non working audio, non working buttons, wouldn't power up, etc. After having a couple brought back to the stores (we had them being sold in 3 stores), we had to go through and pull all of them out of the box and test them all out. After doing so we ended up with way too may that were defective and had to be sent back. It was pretty sad considering the asking price on these units.

It wasn't my idea to carry the things though, nor the district managers. I think it was the store owners after he was talked into it by GXC corporate, which at that time was just a couple of people, the original franchise owners. I did grab one of these for myself for a little while there, and spent a little time with it, but honestly just didn't like its build quality and got rid of it instead of waiting around for it to go bad. I'm not a fan of portables anyway, but this is one I'd probably put last on my list of ones I'd want to own again. The only ones I've ever enjoyed alot were the NGPC and this Coleco Play Pal Sega Master System mini thing that I have.
