The problem with the gameaxe build wise is the lamp for the backlight. redant did not bother to put some kind of foam or shim to keep the lamp from moving around in the unit. The main reason all gameaxe's broke is due to this lamp shattering. Otherwise the rest of it is reasonably made. Put a new screen in one, and 90% of all your problems go away. Now i just need to engineer some kinda of better cartridge docking rig.
Oh no we had many more problems then that. Actually, we never had any with bad backlights anyway. We had units that just flat out were dead, or had non working audio, non working buttons, wouldn't power up, etc. After having a couple brought back to the stores (we had them being sold in 3 stores), we had to go through and pull all of them out of the box and test them all out. After doing so we ended up with way too may that were defective and had to be sent back. It was pretty sad considering the asking price on these units.
It wasn't my idea to carry the things though, nor the district managers. I think it was the store owners after he was talked into it by GXC corporate, which at that time was just a couple of people, the original franchise owners. I did grab one of these for myself for a little while there, and spent a little time with it, but honestly just didn't like its build quality and got rid of it instead of waiting around for it to go bad. I'm not a fan of portables anyway, but this is one I'd probably put last on my list of ones I'd want to own again. The only ones I've ever enjoyed alot were the NGPC and this Coleco Play Pal Sega Master System mini thing that I have.
