"Blazing Lazers" Ultimate Challenge
« on: July 24, 2014, 10:12:44 AM »
This is a high score challenge for Blazing Lazers with some specific rules, for the regular main high score thread see here:   http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=4157.0

Ninja16608 and I got to chatting on rules we thought would level the playing field and stop the use of any tricks to up your score. There are also a few rules that have a higher standard of proving you didn't cheat like video taping the play-through.

This challenge is designed for experts and is open to everyone.

Blazing Lazers Ultimate Challenge
Rules
1-Must be played on original hardware with original game (no everdrive) (no pal system 50hz)
2-Must be recorded with video camera (make sure the score is in focus) (just to be clear only has to show the screen for the playthrough until you reach the end then see rule #8)
3-Normal Mode (no codes obviously)
4-No boss trick (no letting the boss named TriClops live in level 1 and level 9)
5-Can only die with continue gels (Spheres) (No deaths where you restart)
6-Eyeballs mid-boss on level 4 should be killed as fast as you can. (It must be killed by third wave if you let the third wave happen on accident it can be subtracted)
7-No boss grinding for points
8-Pause the game after you kill the last boss when “Area-9 Clear” is shown and take your camcorder and get close up of your score and also show the original game is in the console. Show your set up a bit and try and include the connections and anything to further validate your run. if you like show your controller or take a picture for forum. then unpause and let the ending roll a little bit.

I still think #1 should be able to play on anything Emu or OEM only reason is most people might not have a cam and I know right now mine wont hold an hour of video but I have terabytes of HD space for fraps :-)

Eyeball boss should be killed as fast as you can (I always kill before second set of eyes)

I say we involve the community that wants to take the challenge a say on them 2 rules.

Other than that I like all the rest :-)

I don't know, its awfully easy to cheat on emulators with this game all you would have to do is savestate on the fadeout at the end of each level and if you messed up during that level just retry till you get it right and do a little edit job. or maybe its possible to run the game at like 98% speed or some other hack that would be hard to detect.

Or someone could be at a disadvantage and not even know it, for instance when I play it on an emulator I can tell the game runs a hair faster than on the 16 and also my controller has a slight lag to it (both are hard to detect). these could just be my settings or the emulator or something else.

Yeah the eyeball boss I figured I would give a buffer encase you have a crappy weapon at the time. like if you get hit and are stuck with a pea shooter. I will edit it adding to be as fast as you can.

Made a run through just now with my crappy camcorder the video came out fine but the sound was bad, may need to put a speaker next to the thing so it picks it up. Also I need a full battery cuz that cut out toward the end. but if its full it should be fine. I'll have to do this until I get a good run since this one I made to many mistakes. I'm using a cheap 32inch lcd since my cam is so bad and it seems to work better than the crt, less glare and flat.

Every time I see this thread, I instantly think that this is some kind of porn + obey mashup thread or something.

"Must 1 cc game while hanging from the inverse-nipple-clamp-suspension-frame, recorded with a camcorder."

Dont forget you have to have camcorder dangling from ding-a-ling and have the skills to not let it rotate cuz you could cheat while cam was on the back swing.

Yeah I see your point about the PC I just figured we had honest people here lol.

I'm sure no one would cheat here, but I was just thinking why not eliminate any doubt. If you have the system hooked up with the original hucard in there its pretty much impossible to pull anything and the few cheats and difficulty levels that are built into the game are detectable. Most people would probably agree if you want to have a serious contest it should be on the original hardware.

(Edit: simplified the post)

Can we use a DVD recorder rather than camcorder? Image and sound come out much better that way...

hmm well the problem there is that you cant prove the actual game is in there when you were playing.
You could do both a camcorder and a dvd recorder if you wanted good video also.

For this we are not really going for superb video quality the main point is rule 8 pause the game for the final shot and take the camcorder and show your setup a bit and that the game is in there.

I may rephrase rule 8 a bit here being more specific. I've done it on two run throughs now and it really wasn't a problem.

Gonna try a run through with camcorder tonight and see if the vid quality is good, I have a decent cam but scanlines suck unless you have the ability to set your cam to match the tube tv lol.

Sorry for the double post but I was thinking we make it a real competition, I may offer up a prize for the winner. This would mean there would be a time frame for entries and the prize would be turbo related.....maybe even a game.....ahhhh... that might draw some attention how about a CIC keith courage lol ...NO It would be something much cooler than that. Phase you and I should talk and see what a good prize should be and maybe each throw something in the pot to make it worth the time?? anyhow I'll PM ya later on and see if its good for you too.

Is there an address for me to mail in my camcorder VHS tape?

I used an old one with some episodes of Saved By The Bell on the it, so the end of the tape might overlap into a bit into my Kelly Kapowski clip montage.

I play in quite a few score competitions, and requiring original hardware, camcorder feeds, and a long list of to-do's and not-to-do's is a little ridiculous. I am totally down for a Blazing Lazers competition. Will I camcorder it? No. I think a final score pic would suffice. Will I milk the bosses? No. But if someone wants to (all 1CC/Sissy people do), then let them do it. Just some thoughts. Please ignore me if want. But like I said, I am always down for a good SHMUP challenge.

**Update: I didn't know there was an original challenge thread for Gunhed as well. Proceed as normal.
