Phase-shifting Turbo music....
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:33:13 PM »
While toying around with bringing back Pcenginefx Radio and editing all of the MP3s to make them perfect this time around, I started to mess with phase-shifting some Turbo tracks to hear what it would sound like.

To hear the effect, please listen to the track with headphones.  You should feel like the track is moving around your head.

I am getting the phase effect and the quality sounds pretty nice, but I am also getting this very strange feeling in my ears, specifically my right. During some parts of the song, my ear kind of feels like it's "filled" inside... very hard to describe and must sound strange :D . If anyone else understands this let me know, maybe the cushions in my headphones aren't adjusted or something.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

i listened; and i know what you mean Keranu. I just think it's kind of distracting, and just feels like the music as a whole is floating around your head. I could imagine getting ill if every track had phase-shifting.

Pretty interesting effect, although that's got to be some of the worst music I have ever heard in my life. Just awful. I'll metally blacklist Gate of Thunder.

Mmm 'k... right.

Is there any game you don't dislike on the PC Engine -- apart from Ys, that is?

It is interesting, but I may have to agree with Seldane.  It doesn't sound good :)  I normally love this track.  It sounds like I'm in a room listening to music while 4 or 5 fat guys slowly circle me partially muffling part of the music randomly.

Not even going to bother replying to Seldane  .

Anyway I am glad I am not the only person to get that weird feeling. That was one of the weirdest feelings I've ever felt from sound, it was so physical :D !

Hahahaha! I know, I know, Seldane just likes to tease us :).

I never know whether or not to take his anti-PCE comments seriously.

Despite this, I like Seldane.

Do you mean mentally blacklist it?

Cuz even a non-fan of the music wouldn't blacklist the music metally.

Seldane still hates the PCE Ys games, he just loves Falcom in general (but not the early games from what I've read) and indulges in PCE titles in the interest of completion(as I understand it).

Kinda like how a collector buys games they don't intend on playing.  :)
