I forgot to put in a disclaimer for the SGX, because I thought it would be obvious. Guess it weren't.

By voting for the SGX, you prefer the SGX (meaning the SGX hardware and library of games -only-) to the entire hu-card or pce-cd library, as backwards compatibility is not included in this poll.

Yeah, there's a bunch a holes in the way you formatted your poll.  Since we can't vote for a DUO, the CD systems require a PCE/Core/LT/SG to operate the CD unit.  So, according to this poll at face value, the CD system is just a giant paper weight since a CD console is worthless without a HuCard player attached to it for insertion of a systems card.

Since the Power Console does exist, and as much as I love my new Cordless PCE Pads, I'd take the Power Console over the other 350+ Hucards that work on a PCE.

If we're being super anal, we can't really count the Metro-Sexual Bi-compatability Darius game since it can be played on two platforms.

Oh and if the LT is lumped in the HuCard system, then it's a toss up between Super Nova pocked LT screen and a power console with only 5 games to play.  (Although I could play a couple of the SG games for years).  And the LT REALLY loses it's charm if I can't hook it up to a CD-Rom or Super-CD unit.

Now if I can region mod my hypothetical LT (if it's included in the HuCards) then I'd take the region modded LT over a Power Console equipped SG.

Backwards compatiblity clouds the CD issue too...

Should I keep going or should I stop...

I actually meant game libraries rather than the actual consoles. I mean, who cares about the console anyway? It's all about the games.

No doubt the CD library has the best titles.

Can I change my vote?

The poll says "best console".

That includes all inherent qualities of said console, including ability to play "normal" PCE HuCards, in the case of the  SuperGrafx.

Bite me.

No, the poll says a lot more than that. If you were to include all the inherent qualities of a PCE CD playing console(without disclaimers), then it would also play all PCE HuCards.

But there weren't any disclaimers on the SuperGrafx. So it does include all that.

I actually meant game libraries rather than the actual consoles. I mean, who cares about the console anyway? It's all about the games.

Again, the title is "NEC's Best Console".

You should have called it "NEC's Best Game Library" if that were your intent. The two are vastly different. While I agree it's the games that ultimately make a console what it is, on a technical level that is not the case, and this poll was titled "NEC's Best Console".

So I stand by my vote: SuperGrafx was their best console, on a technical level (IMHO). You got superior 16-bit graphics hardware and a backwards compatibility with an established software (and hardware, no less!) base. Granted their execution and effort in marketing and development was poor, but that's beside the point in this instance.

For best game library, I would have voted for the CD library.

But this is all moot, really-- offsidewing made an excellent point. There were too many holes in the poll and certain points were (apparently) left open to individual interpretation.

You honestly think that the SuperGrafx is technically superior to the PC-FX?

I do...the PC-FX is a complete MESS. At least the SuperGrafx is straightforward in both design and interface...the PC-FX is neither. Sure, it has a lot more meat in there, but someone didn't arrange the plate correctly!

<sigh>

No. That's not what I'm saying.

I'm saying, that in my opinion, the SuperGrafx was their best console.

That in as much as the SuperGrafx was a better contemporary to other "16-bit" graphics consoles than the PC-FX was to it's "32-bit" brethren.

I suppose my use of the word "technical" was misleading-- it was meant as an indicator of me judging it by the console's abilities and other inherent qualities as opposed to solely judging by it's available game library or it's market success. I voted SuperGrafx because of it's backwards compatibility with all PCE games and hardware peripherals, plus you get the added bonus of the mega-awesome SGX game titles. For me, the PC-FX loses because it's not nearly as cool and it doesn't provide compatibility with anything established in the previous "generation". The whole package seems just a tad lackluster for a "32-bit" system.

Look, this poll was screwed up from the beginning. The creator's intent was obviously to poll our preference in game libraries by medium (PCE CD, PCE HuCard, SuperGrafx HuCard, PC-FX CD). But because of the way the poll is presented, particularly the fact that it's called "NEC's Best Mother-f*ckin' Console" and not "NEC's Best Ass-Kicking Game Library" this meaning was lost on some. Add to that the ultra-confusing choice of options to vote for.....

SuperGrafx was NEC's best console.

Create a new poll called "NEC's Best Game Library" and I'll vote differently.
