I find it very difficult to consider Zelda II to even be a Zelda game. Not to say that the game isn't great...it's one of my faves, and the game I used the most while testing my own NES emulator, but it's just so vastly different from the rest; it's as if someone took a platformer and said "hey, let's stick Link in here instead of this dopey guy we already got"...sorta like the US release of SMB2.

We all know that for the next game in the series, LttP, they went back to the original for inspiration, but what if they had continued to refine the Zelda 2 style game, with more jumping, and RPG-esque stats?

It could have been a better series IMO.

I voted for Wind Waker. My second place vote would be Link's Awakening.

Many of the later games are damn good, but it's hard to surpass the goodness of the original.

Yeah, but, SMB2 I think deserves a true sequal!  Actually, it might be kinda cool, if they ever did a sequal to Zelda 2 on DS!

Oh and what about the Satellaview Zeldas?

Unfinished, unreleased and nobody's played them. And no, testing the shit dumps on an emulator does not count. They weren't meant to be played that way.

As for Zelda II... I actually read in a magazine that it was originally meant to be some typical Famicom action RPG, but in mid-development they decided to slap the Zelda name on it just because the first game was so successful. A little plan to use a popular name to make it sell better. They failed. In Japan. It was very successful in Europe though.

By the way, for those who voted for the first game: what made you choose it? Do you actually consider it a good game? Why? Is it just nostalgia? It can be fun as a "pick up and play" game, but it's not exactly "good". It hasn't aged well.

As I said: shit dumps. They weren't meant to be played that way. They are improperly emulated, and data is missing. Nobody here's played the real thing.

They're still Zelda games, as are the CD-I games and thus should be included. You can't make a poll and only include things YOU like, you have to have EVERYTHING in that certain catergory, Orwellian polls SUCK.

NOBODY likes the CD-i games, that's why I excluded them. Had I included them, people would've voted for them just to "give them some love" (I'm looking at Keranu here). :P I'm only including real, officially released games by Nintendo. No unreleased BS-X crap, and no Philips shit.

I agree that it hasn't aged well.

It's a game that worked well for its time.  In an internet walkthough-less day and age, where you actually had to go look for levels and power-ups the legit way (or use information gathered from magazines, friends, etc), made it a good video game experience for its time.  The other Zeldas came up short in that department.

So I guess you can call that nostalgia.  Which is fine with me.

I demand the CD-i games be on this list whether people like it or not. In the mean time, I voted Zelda II.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Out of them all, I had the best experience playing Link to the Past.

I do consider the original to be a good game, but I don't consider any of the Zelda games to be all that and a bag of chips.  I haven't played Zelda in a loooong time, but I think if I were to pick it up today that I'd enjoy it enough to want to finish it.

Screw those BS games.  No Link?  Just some nameless ass clowns?  f*ck that shit - BS doesn't just stand for Broadcast Satellaview.  There is no reason to add this crap (or the CD-i junk) to the poll.  Who in there right mind would vote for them anyway?
