what's octamed?

A module tracker. It makes MED files, like Soundtracker/Protracker made MOD files.

What it is, basically, you can take samples of instruments, and seqeunce them to play music.

not to forget, that the x68k only used 5"1/4 flexdiscs which will be outdated soon or later.

They were outdated 15 years ago. But clearly, we all like old technology

The X68000 has a far better selection of quality titles then the Amiga. The arcade ports were spot on,Ys1-2 were awesome,About every Konami and Capcom title on it is a keeper, ect. I don't know about you,but playing Akumajo Dracula,Gradius 3,Chase HQ,Afterburner,Dead in the Brain,Ys1-2,Final Fight, ect are alot more fun then playing Defender of the Crown,Wings, and a bunch of poor arcade ports that only have music,or sound fx. Not saying the Amiga is not fun or didn't have any good games, because it was fun,and had alot of nice original titles if you span the entire library. I just feel its selection pales compared to the X68000s.

Actually, Ys 2 was never released for the X68000. Dempa Micomsoft released a remake of Ys 1, which I consider the best version of that game (excluding Ys 1 Complete). Falcom themselves made the best version of Ys 3 and released it for the X68000. No other version can even compare to this one. There are unofficial emulated ports of Ys 1-2 (PC-8801 versions) on the X68000, but again- these are unofficial and were only available through piracy BBSes.

PS: Stop talking about Amiga in our fantastic X68000 thread! :(

Even back then people referred to the X68000 as the "Japanese Amiga"...

Technically, we shouldn't be talking about either of them in 'console chat'...

Well X68000 counts, because it wasn't good for anything other than gaming. :P

Remember the last time the Japanese disagreed? They do.

And did I mention that the X68000 is ugly as hell? It really is.

Not trying to dispute your claim on Y's 2 or anything, but I got my diskette images from a friend,2 disk game, and I have scans of the packaging on a cd-r around here somewhere with other scans of x68000 games packaging....if it was a bootleg I am surprised. Dempa was supposed to have released it in 91. It looked real in the scans and feels legit to me when playing it.

That's Ys 1 silly. Dempa's own remake, which is not a bootleg. :P

To clarify...

Ys 1 was released by Dempa in 1991. This is an official remake of Ys 1.
Ys 3 was released by Falcom in 1990. This is an official release.

Ys 1 (a port of the PC-8801 version) was unofficially and illegally released by some doods known as Team Milkhouse. They did the same thing with Ys 2.

Ahh Ok,I never bothered to play it much. He had the images in a file folder listed as y's2. When I loaded it up I only looked at it for a sec,I assumed he was correct because the graphics had a rework that looked alot like the Falcom Classics Y's2 collection for Saturn, which I had way back in 2000,so I assumed it was the same game. So I am guessing then the Saturn version was a total rework on its own too then? I play very little of Y's,I thought the series looked nice from afar, but I don't like bum rushing enemies. The only one I played the most was Y's 1 for Master System. When I had 1/2 for Turbo Cd,I played it for like 3 mins, that was it. I did beat Ys 3 for Genesis though, way before I ever even knew what systems Ys 1,2,ect.. were released on in any format.
