first of all, i have played them on my snes, which is still in fantastic shape. also, by saying it was the game that got me back into video games does not imply that i haven't played any games that have recently come out. what it simply says is this is the game that got me back into video games.
at my cousins house, i always play new games, like grand theft auto and didn't care for it. i also played games like devil may cry, hated that as well.
i never liked games like breath of fire because i thought of them as a poor man's final fantasy. the main thing i meant when i say "got me back into video games" into buying games for the psI and II, which i have bought plenty of in the past year. it invigorated that desire to buy video games again.
but b4 that i was still playing my nes, super nes, getting all the endings on chrono trigger. i also played a game called saga frontier II and although i love this game beyond words(took me a while to get into it and understand it though) it didn't make me want to buy another rpg or any game in general.
i remember the last battle in chrono trigger, i found that to be extremely difficult, having to rely somewhat on luck to go along with sick strategy. that fight was back and forth, survive and advance, lasting a while. similarly, in shin megami there were over 30 major battles like that, individual main boss battles lasting like an hour, really intense.
if you don't like the game, fine, like i said, it's not for you, but for people like me, with discriminating tastes. but don't tell me the only reason i liked it, as if you have a complete understanding about what goes on in my mind. i remember when i played ff III, i hadn't played many rpg's before that, but i didn't need to to know it was a revolutionary outstanding video game. it's the way i felt while playing it, the amount of joy i experienced while playing it. that's what shin megami was and IS like. or when i read a great novel, i don't need to compare it to some other novel to know it's great. it is great because it IS.
