Yeah, I used to use Word Perfect and a bit later Quattro Pro on an old IBM PS2 running OS/2 and later OS/2 Warp. Good times. Hilariously enough, I could get windows software to run on it more easily than a machine I built in college that ran Windows 2k.
Facebook PCE groups kinda suck. As do facebook groups for video gaming in general. Nobody actually plays anything or has anything useful to say. It's just "Yo, check out my mail call!" and "Look what I found today!" garbbo. Then possibly a couple of title screens.

And the Spiderman thing, I'm not judging anyone. As a super-diehard comics fan I pretty much have to watch it. It just sucks when certain storylines get butchered on the big screen, which is how I felt about the last two reboots, its just seemed like a gigantic money grab and assertion of control over Stan Lee's character. Lee sued Sony over his creation and was I think awarded 10% of everything and a cameo in every movie and series in a settlement or judgement. That's apparently why Marvel went with Netflix, because they were able to in-house everything.
...But again, Marvel isn't a tiny company any more. They're f*cking Disney... at this point the only person I care about in this Spiderman war is Stan The Man, who created a comic book that the world loves, and is finally getting paid for it. It just sucks that there is this embroiled war over who owns it.
...Oh and Miles Morales, the new Spiderman is badass. I really dug the few issues that I read. Peter Parker is washed out like an old pair of jeans at this point, imo.
More research on this and I'll rant about it again.

Yeah she keeps getting younger, like in every reboot. Someone here posted a meme about it earlier that made me laugh. She was always like this 70+ yo woman in the comic, his great aunt... So now Aunt May is a tough 30something. I'm strangely OK with this, haha.
But again, they want to bring a younger generation into the franchise and are doing an experiment to see how they dig the character reboots. So far, the only interesting tie-in was the confirmation that the kid with the helmet in Iron Man 2 was actually a 6yo Peter Parker. And that whole thing about balancing High School and the Avengers... well, that's Hollywood for ya. He was already working for J.J.J. when he teamed up with the Avengers, and probably like 26 or 27.

I so to glad to finally have something with modern design sensibilities which take advantage of somewhat current hardware capabilities, but works within the confines or at least with the limitations in mind for these platforms.

I get my moneys worth out of my photoshop sub in both income and money saved performing tasks that would otherwise cost a lot of money. This argument has been had a million times before, and I understand why it's not right for you, but for me and a million other artists it's hard to ween away from the teet of photoshop. It's great, has a great tools and most of us have over 15-20 years using the same tools yet improved and modernized constantly. I am happy fruityloops is a one stop shop for you, but that's apples and oranges no pun intended. I understand your frustration that photoshop doesn't have a low resolution indexed color workflow in mind, but it IS still possible and is a super low priority for Adobe. It's still undeniably the best raster image software you're going to find, even if a small portion of its use case is outclassed by a program specifically designed for that use case.

I don't know that DAWs and coloring programs are really as apple and orangey as you think. They are both on the same level of complexity, and people get into the same religious arguments about the various options...
and then everyone says oh use Logic Pro on their 9000230230923$ apple setup
and I really just go back to the part where the issue is an actual bug in photoshop. It's just comical, since they could probably fix it pretty easily.
Probably easier than when we had to reload the image with Allegro or SDL, and rewrite the file with a reversed palette.
I think that's the reason it's so easy to make fun of the entire situation.
I really wish I knew where the hell that utility went. I'll probably rewrite it at some point when I am not being lazy.

Back then, I had Photoshop 5 LE. Limited Edition? You bet it was limited, limited in functionality to be more specific. First of all, if you exported any picture, it would apply some color correction profile to it, resulting in some slightly darker tinted appearance. Also, text layers would be converted to bitmap layers as soon as you were done typing the text - only one chance to do it right at the first time, no chance to do any corrections on your text later on. I think this was supplied as a freebie with some parallel port flatbed scanning device.
Later on, a friend from the university handed me Photoshop 7. Much better. I'm still using it today, works from ye olde Win95 up to Win10 64 bit.

When the PC's and Macs went to 64bit operating systems it was useless. or maybe that was PS4... but anyway it turned into a $800 piece of garbage as soon as you upgraded your OS. I remember a bunch of my developer friends losing their shit over this.
I personally lost my f*cking mind and smashed a bunch of shit. It was Pulp Fiction in my office for about 35 minutes.

If GIMP were equal to a building, Photoshop would be equal to a city. You can do just insane amounts of stuff with it... one example: make slices and build a completely interactive webpage complete with generated code from your artwork.

yeah if you f*ck off at the bottom of the screen, you're basically asking to get dead. You have half as many places to move to, and you can't wipe stuff out as quickly.
there's times where you basically want to be almost touching stuff as you shoot it, so you inflict deadness ASAP. you also need to get used to your collision box, because you can actually touch stuff and not die. You only die when it's really really touch. touch and really touch won't kill you.
that throws people off.

So far, I like the theme of it with the smart phones, but I am not sure I like the characters as much as older personas.
The presentation is great, though, and the subway-station/streetwalkin' is really well done.

And I had to go onto mac customer support at like 4 AM and have them doohickey with it to get the virus gone. And then again today, and they kicked me off because my mac was too old and then I just kept logging in and logging in and they got my keychain back.
Apparently there was 56 gigs of launchers and loaders and flash updates and shit. And I think there was a rat and some popsicle sticks in there too.

So yeah, also they under no circumstance will admit that their machines get viruses. It's in their training. And it's this weird level of weird denial. It's like in that Scient0l0gy documentary when they keep insisting that the audit machine isn't a polygraph. Anyway, I had so much fun messing with them on that.

so I got a macbook back when I started college. It was when they finally started using Intel, and I got a discount through my college, so I figured OK, time to try this shit since I don't own a laptop.
I'm there, and I asked a bunch of questions about programming on it. They were clueless. I figured f*ck it, it's OK, I'll figure it out once I get it.
I will admit, Apple's hardware is kinda nice. The screen was the best laptop screen at the time. It all smelled nice. It was a neat thing. I was excited. PC laptops hadn't adopted good keyboards yet.
So I was like "OK, I could get a Gateway also. They have an accidental damage replacement plan. What do you have, Appleduder?"
He goes OH WE GOT APPLE CARE ITS GREAT. MY NIECE SPILLED GRAPEJUICE ON MY MACBOOK, GOT A NEW ONE FREE OF CHARGE. FREE REPAIRS AND EVERYTHING.
I'm like cool. Sold. Give me that and this Macbook. I got some other shit too. like a Mighty (piece of shit) mouse, Parallels (waste of money).
Fast forward like 9 months later.
1) The power brick started to fall apart 2) The DVD drive stopped being reliable at reading anything that wasn't brand new. 3) The battery stopped holding a charge for more than half a second. 4) I accidentally knocked a can of coke onto the laptop.
I went "ah f*ck" and threw it in the sink and cranked the water, hoping to get the pop out so it could just like air out and maybe be OK.
Nope.
I was like well, time to go get a new laptop because AppleCare.
I go drop it off at the Macstore in HipsterTownUSA (its this shopping center full of yuppie cunts). I said, I spilled pop on this. I have AppleCare. Do whatever.
A few days later, I come back, and they go Oh it's gonna be 800$ to fix all this. I said, and I quote.
"no, it's going to be free, according to that dude over there who sold me your AppleCare plan."
They get kind of prissy. They don't know that I am one of those people that will unleash a verbal assault when required. I just kind of hang back and sit there as they call numbnuts over.
They ask him "Did you tell this kid apple care will fix accidental damage like spills or dropping it and breaking it?"
"NO, WHY WOULD I DO THAT. THAT'S NOT HOW IT WORKS. THIS CHUMPS CLEARLY LYING TO TRY AND GET FREE STUFF."
I looked at him like "... are you really calling me a liar?" and he goes "LOOK IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD MACS AND REPAIRS, MAYBE THEY AREN'T FOR YOU. MACS ARE A CUT ABOVE THE REST."
This was the equivalent of when they open that gate and let that pissed off bull into the rodeo thing to f*ck up everyone.
I got off their Genius Bar stool and said
"Look dude, you work sales at a Mac store. You aren't exactly wiping your ass with money. That's probably your shitty looking Chevy Cobalt in the parking lot with the dumbass Apple sticker on the window. That's probably why you sold me some BS story about your niece spilling grapejuice on your macbook and getting a free replacement so you could dupe me into buying the plan. You get commission from it, don't you?"
He started to get all pissy at my accusation. Little did he know, I already assumed the worst, made sure he was working when I went in to get it, and made sure to eavesdrop while I waited.
I legit heard him selling the same shpeel to some lady who was now browsing macbook accessories.
The genius bar people are already in crisis mode because they probably aren't trained in what to do when weird looking skinny kids with perms come in and start laying into someone.
So I'm like "I think we need a manager. Get one of those. It shouldn't be hard, since you're geniuses and all."
Dude goes "OUR MANAGER IS GOING TO TELL YOU WHAT WE ALREADY TOLD YOU"
I go "hahaha yeah, you keep thinking that. go get him."
Manager comes out. They explain their situation and he's like "well... yeah that's not how apple care works, so we can't do anything. Sorry."
and I go "Yep, noted, but hey , watch this."
I go "hey, lady, come here and tell us what this guy told you about Apple Care"
she legit goes:
"OH! It sounds great! He said his niece spilled grape juice on his and got a free replacement! I have kids so it sounds like a great deal."
dudes face looked like he sharted. Manager looks at him and goes "You're done. Just leave."
Then they explain to the lady that he's a lying piece of shit, so she just goes "... oh", tosses the stuff she was going to buy on the table nearby, tells them she doesn't want the Macbook Pro anymore, and left. I giggled.
Then they refunded me the entire cost of the AppleCare plan, and I talked them into refunding me for all the other accessories I had bought since he wasted my f*cking time.
As I left, I went over to the music demo-y setup and started playing the intro synths from Jump, recorded it, had it set to repeat, plugged the mouse into the adjacent computer, cranked the volume, pulled the volume knob off the speakers, and just walked out, lol. I flicked the volume knob into the bushes, turned around and threw up some middle fingers and just strolled away laughing.
Then I sold the broken macbook for 900$ on ebay and got a Gateway.
When the accidentally replacement thing was about to expire, I took the HDD out and punted it down a flight of steps at the mall.
Got me a free replacement, and since it was an old model, they gave me the current equivalent.
Did that two more times.
Hell yeah.
f*ck Apple.

I have "late 2008" MacBook for my main machine still. I haven't replaced it because none of the new laptops have storage or decent potential for it (I have two 1TB HDs in the current machine, its *really* expensive to have that much internal flash storage in the new stuff). It's on it's third battery but...it's 9 years old so that's actually pretty good.
Some keys died in it and I replaced the keyboard myself for $80. That was when it was like five years old. One nice thing about MacBooks is that they are the best selling notebooks by a mile so there are hundreds of parts sources on eBay. Even when the stuff is years out of production.
I don't smash things or spill shit so it's been great so far.
Parallels was indeed a waste of money.
I think my next one will just be a Mac Mini. They basically require that you have external drives hanging off your shit now so I don't see the point of a laptop that it's only portable for pretend. This way I pay half as much.

I arrange my Turbo games by color. I have the orange titles first, then the genre colored titles arranged as to be appreciated by my boy Roy. G. Biv. Then I have my CD games after that, regular CDs followed by Super CDs.

My PCE games are alphabetical by title, though the Arcade Card games are on a separate shelf with system cards, flash carts, and a couple Tennokoes. The Turbobs are a bit fooked up; they're still alphabetical but are separated by genre (kinda) in those cheap little storage drawer things.

Rummaged through the "wrong" games in an attempt to find the right one is my way of engaging with my entire collection. Same for everything else I have. I may own hundreds of LDs and thousands of records but I only have maybe a half dozen categories.

I'm pretty sure this is how my jewel cased games are sorted:
I have Arcade Card, bicompatible, and demo CD games at the top of one CD rack. Then Super CD games go downward in order of RPG'ish: War Sim: Actiony arcadey non-shooters, shooters, digital comic/adventure and then misc.
The shelf to the right is Turbo CDs up top, first SCD (d sorted by spine color?), then CD2. Beneath that are PCE CD2 in the same kind of genre order.
To the right of that is TurboChips up top. Orange spine first, then the rest sorted by color. Beneath that is the few CIC PCE HuCards I have left.

I honestly find this topic very interesting. It's bugged me forever that Turbo games had 2 wildly different looks. As a kid I had a stack of games and I already wanted to sort them by orange label or colored label. After that, mixing CDs and turbo chips left me with a bad feeling about my stuff. I separated those two and then it became more apparent to separate further due to how the library worked.
I also had the pair of black Tengen games separate from the rest of my NES games in the box I had them in.

Having already cleaned the heads and relubed some of the bearings/bushings that are more easily accessible. But it looks like I've got to open up the machine one more time and do some disassembly to get to servicing the motors and other not so obvious bushings. The screeching noise coming from inside of the machine isn't funny anymore. Oh well.
Also got some Maxell UR-90 blank tapes. Ferric, but they seem to be the only tapes around that are still produced and do not cost you and arm and a leg. Let's see how my old childhood tapes perform on this machine once I'm done servicing it.
EDIT: Just done recording Duane & Brando's LP of Devastation onto some used Sony EF Super-60 ferric tape and now listening to it. Dolby C noise reduction was applied, makes it sound rather nice. That screeching I told you made the recording vary in speed on some portions. So I'll re-record this another time.

The Maxell UR-90 were on sale for 2 € per pack of five, so I couldn't say no.
I'm not dead serious about that cassette tape deck. Just mildly serious enough for wanting to make it work again and have some fun recording silly stuff from my MP3 library. So I can make friends suffer, erm, listen to it.
And to show cassette tapes sound better than what most people think of them nowadays, if handled with proper recording equipment and noise reduction.

When I was in college I had a classmate that was in a wheel chair. We worked together in a few classes on a few projects. At one point I was discussing something with him and I referred to something as "lame." It was exactly at that moment that I realized that any insult you sling is insulting to somebody. He didn't even seem to care but I felt really bad at that moment that because of something I used frequently due to its relatively innocuous nature.

This is a good discussion. It's nice to reflect, sometimes. We should all take a little time to think about what we do and why we do it, and whether there's maybe a better way to do it.
But on this specific issue, a lot of it comes down to respect and normalization. There was a time it was OK to normalize gay (homosexuality) as bad, because it was seen as a social ill, a perversion or nature, as something that was objectively wrong. Well, now we know that's stupid. And calling stuff that sucks gay implies that gay is bad, and gay people aren't bad people. And while very few people probably WANT to be on the autism spectrum or have developmental disabilities, it doesn't make them lesser people. Less smart, or less capable in a lot of ways, yes, but not, ultimately, less human. And so when we use those words as insults, it normalizes the idea that these people are bad or less human. I don't mean that saying something is gay or retarded automatically means you personally intend to dehumanize people who are those things. But when we collectively say that word use is acceptable, it means we're kind of saying it's OK for people to harbor those feelings about people, even if we might individually know that it isn't so.
Anyone who tells you the language you use doesn't affect the way you think is full of shit, because the human brain is wired for language, and language absolutely affects our views and thought processes.

Linguists know about the origins and use of language but that typically doesn’t include language and the brain, ala psychology and neuroscience. And yes, given the challenges some gay folks face simply avoiding real and material discrimination or being beaten up by reprobates, I can understand him not being able to muster the energy to care about gay being used to mean bad or sucky. But it doesn’t change the fact that using the word that way encourages association between gay and negativity. The psychology of language is worth the study. Sometimes the little things we do carelessly have meaningful cumulative effects.

Injustice 2 sucks. It keeps deciding that it doesn't have DLC characters that are already paid for and downloaded. Then sometimes it decides you can't re-download them because you haven't paid for them. Then sometimes it starts working again.
Maybe it's modern games that suck? Whatever.

There have been some great DLCs, and some great games with little to no DLC, this year that came out. It's all over the place, and they're trying to figure out how to best make games profitable; I think we're lucky that some content is optional and they just haven't raised game prices with inflation and cost of production. Games used to cost a fraction of what they cost to make now, and sold for more at retail, pre-inflation. In some instances it's abused or done poorly ( look at battlefront 2... weird) but in some implementations it's rad ( I am really enjoying the Zelda BotW DLC right now)

Alright, piece of shit is working now for all members. I hacked the developer's code away a bit, he relied on a SMF function call for member privilege that only returned true if you're an admin, but we can remove that and rely on the forum itself for a member being logged in, not a guest, etc.

Keep in mind I'll look again for other freebie chat mods at the SMF Mods section though there aren't much. This one had a 2017 update, so it wasn't as abandoned as the others. But given all the code patching I had to do, and how cheap it is, it's unfortunate...
Anybody remember the old chat mod being better, what it looked like ?? I wasn't active back then, never saw it.

I remember it looking better but that could be the nostalgia talking. It wasn't much better though. One thing I think it did have was that it showed who was online I think? But back then the forum didn't have that bar at the bottom showing attendance.

Other than it scrolling properly (this one doesn't autoscroll on chrome) and being larger (maybe resizeable?), I don't remember it being much different. If anything this one is more advanced, as I don't recall the old one having buttons for font, colors, smileys, etc. though they'd work if appropriate code was typed.

* Empty your browser's cache if you can and hit F5/Refresh a few times to make sure all updated JavaScript files get downloaded.
* Double/Triple echo post bug 100% fixed! The refresh occurs every 3.5 seconds to check for new texts, the server asynchronous related code has been preserved to satisfy Matt's annoyance at the slight pausing before and my preference for perfection. ;) It's all gotten MUCH better from what it was out of the box!
* Auto-scrolling, fixed/improved, every 3.5 seconds to the bottom/newest text.
* I added a resize ability good only for browsers with CSS 3.0 support like Chrome, and an active chat viewer list up-to-date every 4 seconds underneath the chat. (Seems people are leaving a chat window open all night since it was added...so doesn't necessarily mean they're in front of their phone/PC.)
* Shoutbox now registers as a new SMF forum action titled "The PC EngineFX Shoutbox," so it's been properly integrated and will display as member activity when looking at the Who's Online page (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?action=who).
* Shout/chatbox compatibility so far: Chrome v63 & IE 11 on Windows 7, Chrome on Android 4.4 Kitkat & Android 7.1 Nougat. Dunno how/why it started working on Android 4.4 Chrome, the programmatic scrolling wouldn't work before, but it got fixed with the latest changes.

I think a button or checkbox to toggle it on/off will do the trick when I get to it. :)
EDIT: Err wait, I just made it smarter. It'll ONLY auto-scroll after detecting a new post at the bottom, and play the sound by default (that was buggier earlier). That might be good enough!
Everyone should do a full emptying of cache and refresh on your browser to make sure it all gets updated. Lots of changes, code is simpler, back to asynchronous style, server sends less HTML data to load text of room, should all make Matt happy. I'm surprised at the improvements and it works on IE with no conditional DHTML code tricks/differences now, etc.
EDIT: Sunteam Paul just suggested and made Bonk sound effects for the arrival event of a new text, I liked them so they've been added (mp3/wav versions). This, pretty much. Unlike Rover who worked with me, provided both the :token: and competent popup lines from the game to associate with his Yukis. ;)

Well, Gredler put direct effort in place when it came to the RockCats, tried different sizes and so forth, we talked about options for popup text on the spot, etc. So more motivation and direct collaborating led to faster results.
He also gave me others like a cheap static Yuki and your ship, but I didn't bother with the Yuki until the same thing happened with Rover who found 2 nice animated ones (Yuki & Geni), and knew exactly what perfect popup text to use, so that happened before the ship for that reason.
Timing is everything Arko, my PCE brother! ;) Now you did show up after and get to choose the popup text at the tail end, so "Deeper Blue" is AetherByte-approved and that's when I felt like getting to it.

I'm not using the chat window. No I'm just perusing the forums so in these instances it's when I'm away from the chat. I'll try turning off auto-scroll and see if that helps.

Okay here's what happens when I un-check auto-scroll. If I move into a subforum and then back out to the root again with my browser's back button the screen still snaps up to the embedded chatbox but for some reason the box is empty of text. Plus the audio tick that usually plays doesn't in this instance. On the other hand if I move into a subforum after un-checking auto-scroll and click "Home" or the PCFX logo the screen snaps back to the chatbox and auto-scroll has reactivated itself. Infuriating I tell ya.
Edit: I misunderstood you when you said "minimize" I thought you were referring to the pop-up window option. I figured out what you meant though. If I minimize the embedded chat window it fixes the problem. But sometimes I like having the window open just to keep an eye on you guys! :)

I've heard that many times, but I don't think it's true. Deleting your account (by choice) does not delete posts; only a mod deleting your account can remove posts, as we have extra options: delete account, delete account and posts, or delete account, posts, and topics.

I'm sorry you feel that way but I witnessed it all start to finish, and my simple co-admin rule is you play with libelous, defamatory dox jobs with my home address/number, fabricated stories about my offline life, create your own stories about intent to include TurboRip malware/virus because you exploited false positive reports, sabotage my chatbox work for 14 days because everyday you wake up you got DildoPhile in your brain, not only does it call for permaban, but wiping also!
I'd apply this rule equally, had he done it to Aaron or other members! Ban and wipe! Game over! I had no idea he was capable of this! I thought he was such a great "jokester" and could take "DildoPhile" crapping with a smile so I couldn't conceive he's so thin skinned that he'd hijack a defamatory dox job as payback to settle his vendetta! Oops...
The saboteur 2 times floated the idea to embed his chatbox when all I asked him was to help test it! His mania to then spam his Alt-PCE Forum daily then proceeded until he started finally getting the message, stubborn, defiant, entitled as he is! But then he and his gang moved the fight on over to the forums and here we are!
I gave my report to Aaron on his dox site association, spamming, deletion, etc. and the chatbox shutdown, it's a disgusting debacle and I'm not ever wasting the work hours that I did on this toxic group which can't be refunded but oh well.
The head Dildo needed some kind of victory, he wanted to be the only chatbox in PCE town after Paul shut his down, he and his minions gave me hell every step of the way, so I say he should have one, and who knows, maybe he'll avoid being less of a nullity/bullity/spammity/doxxity monster in the future as a result...
P. S. Really sucks about Rover, but he only selected account deletion. His display name was Old Rover but the account was nodtveidt so ALL his posts are found under that. If he ever cools off and rejoins I'd reassociate those posts back but that's an IF sadly... And yet there DarkKobold still stands... :/

It was an experiment in mass destruction... It wasn't just harassment by nullity, though his cyber-bullying escalation by hijacking a defamatory dox job to blackmail/extort linkage back to his Alt PCE Forum will become legend...
There is some sort of desperation there, an "emergency" to regain every possible website hit off the back of this forum... My pathway for him was to gain spam permission from Aaron (after his 14 day spam flooding of his site), he chose escalation/extortion/doxxing - I don't think you should be able to survive that on most any forum...
Now you take the whole package of destruction since chatbox went live: tempers flared, exodus threats, 3 self deletions, insults hurled everywhere, warring outside the forum, burned bridges all around, it was a failure... You got here recently, you can read up on it all from my post history.
I don't think we should run this experiment again even with nullity gone, and it's uncertain what sense of normalcy can be regained in the coming weeks. Aaron agreed a shutdown was probably the best solution for now.

These are not things Paul could ever be capable of, not in the slightest bit, so there is an ethical choice if these are the only 2 PCE chatboxes available at present... Nullity should not get that much of a victory from this disaster...
