Great Ep. I love the Playstation. It has a special place in my heart, as it was the console that stopped me from going outside and playing football, to sitting in my room playing RPGs

I could see why the PS1 was the jrpg golden era before that it was a niche market in the u.s.

it was a cool machine for 3D racer (especially the ridge racer serie) and all sort of great arcade and exclusive 2D ware. never could get into any other 3D except racers and yeah eventually silent hill and MGS.

especially the ridge racer serie(s)
I only still own a handful of PS1 games: the Wipeouts, R-types and the godly Rage Racer. Tight control, kick-ass tunes...total arcade driver (my top fav next to Outrun Online)

The PS1 is what kept me in gaming after I jumped on the day-one N64 then bailed on it a year later (that thing has been banished to my storage closet for eternity).

Around '97 or '98 was a golden time for PS1 game buying - a lot of the good JRPG's were discounted to the $20 or so range and you could load up on 2 or 3 classic JRPGs, fighters or racers for the price of a normal new game. I remember getting Suikoden, WipeOut XL and Street Fighter Alpha 2 for like $50 together new.

Castlevania: SOTN and MGS 1 are the only games I've beaten 3+ times each. I kept going back to them every year.

Nintendo lost my loyalty from my SNES days with the N64 by sticking with expensive carts and losing Squaresoft which jumped ship to Sony. I had read all the articles about how a CD-Rom cost 3 cents to press, plus $3-$5 for the manual and case, while Nintendo carts cost $25 to manufacture given the PCB, the chips, the caps, etc. and that the CD with its 650 MB of space (versus cart max 64 MB) provided developers all this new opportunity, etc. I had also experienced the Turbo Duo with Ys Book I & II, so put it all together, I really thought that it was a terrible decision to stick with carts and I never made the mistake of even thinking of buying the N64 - I said bye bye to the big N. *sniff* Sometimes I did think I'd like to try Super Mario 64 and then Zelda 64, but that interest waned over the years as I enjoyed my PS1 with FF 7-8, FF:Tactics, MGS, Resident Evil, Xenogears, etc. ;)

I have Einhander from Squaresoft and Elemental Gearbolt from Working Designs, do those count as shooters ? ;) Just two... Guess I mostly concentrated on RPGs with my Playstation. Wanted that Raiden project though also after seeing a friend play it at his house, but never ran into a chance to buy it.

Einhander is awesome.  Square will never make a game like that again.  I don't care what others say, I will always like Einhander.  Also, Philosoma was the reason I bought a PSX when I saw the import version before sony launched in the states.

I'm not sure which I liked better... The actual review, or the console porn skit at the end lol

I loved Jet Moto and Cool Boarders 2 on ps1... Man we played the crap out of those games.  Oh and the first Gran Turismo... That was always good.

Man I am way behind on my Game Sack. I lost my bookmark to this thread too. Starting with Top Ten 16-Bit Games and moving forward. Missed you guys! Just been too busy with MGC and the wedding.

I was really moved by your 100th episode flashback of the past couple years by the way.

BIO HAZARD was the game that made me stay with the PSX. My first game was Street Fighter Zero (yeah I saw the BIO commercial in it) and it is also my favorite Street Fighter game (even with SF2 with countless upgrades still being popular in arcades).
Another game that was pretty good was Tomba! 2. One of the best 3D platformers IMO. My copy was NTSC-J, so I really didn't understand what was going on, but I got surprisingly far (to the palace level). For those who are not familiar with the game, it is a 2.5D world where you can do various quests and secrets. Due to the nature of the game and the Japanese language I would get obsessed with it, I remember getting real sad when I lost my copy. But I really didn't knew that there was an US version of the game and I wasn't able to play it even though I had a chip to play imports. One day I will track it down and finish it.

Today I only play some of my favorite ones on PS3: Resident Evil 1~3, Dino Crisis 1~2, Silent Hill, Alone in the Dark, Parasite Eve 2 (I'm not much of a fan of RPG games so I didn't got interested in the first one), all from PSN, and Alien Trilogy (disc). Also I would like to revisit Die Hard Trilogy, Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, and others that I can't recall right now.
