I guess I've been doing this video game thing for so long that I know when to not buy something just because its new...and it pays off.

I skipped the Game Boy Advance but purchased the GBA SP when it came out which is far superior. I also skipped the Nintendo DSi and instead got the DSi XL.

I think the upgrade from GBA to GBA SP was one of the most significant in history. The OG GBA was a bland ugly thing that was incredibly easy to drop and had a screen that basically couldn't be seen. The SP on the other hand is one of the best designs of any handheld ever, added a light up screen, and basically started the trend of everything coming with a rechargeable battery and power supply. I LOVE the SP.

I actually have a DSi instead of an XL though since I don't really want a handheld the size of a hardback book when its open. Its nice, but the XL is just too big for me.

I couldn't agree more.  This is the only system I have ever purchased twice, as I HAD TO HAVE the upgraded GBA.

Other than that, I am always a launch system buyer, and I have never had any regrets.  I'd rather get in on the action when it is fresh, rather than playing something 2 years after everyone else has, and having no one to talk to about it.

Yeah, waiting on the Vita myself. To me buying a system at launch doesn't make much sense these days when you know there will be price drops, upgrades, and a huge library of great cheap games to choose from after a year or two. To me it seems like early adopters get screwed badly as they pay a huge price and end up buying a few crappy games at full retail price just because there is nothing else out yet and they want to use their new system. Did that with the original PSP-1000. Back in the 80/90's systems only dropped every 7 years or so, so if you were willing to shell out a bit to buy something you know you'd get eventually it makes sense, but especially for the handheld market it seems like upgrades, extra colors, price drop, etc., are happening faster and faster. Besides, there are so many games I own that I haven't even PLAYED yet, let alone cleared, so I'm in no rush. That said, I REALLY want to play the new Minna no Golf/Hot Shots Golf game...

Think about the slaves in Malaysia, and China who is very aware about the stuff they put together, and commit suicide doing it.

Investing in an language course is far better then any 3d game system right now. With all that time playing we could have made a videogame by now.

I don't mind firmware updates as much as I mind needing to create a profile and then logging in to play a game myself. Not to mention creating an avatar and then buying virtual crap for it. The PS3 isn't guilty of this, thankfully, but I have far more games for the 360 than the PS3 (because I got the PS3 later, and for many games, I appreciate the 360 control pad more). I don't get why I have to log in to play a game in singleplayer - sometimes I just don't want my friends to know I wasn't that busy I said I was :p

To get back on topic, it would be fine if the Vita received sporadic firmware updates (as long as they're tightening up security and adding features and not removing stuff). Hopefully, the first update will change the awful current interface for the good ol' XMB : D

That's comparing apples and oranges though.  I'll give an apples to oranges comparison myself...  Let's say I wanted to talk about the movie Citizen Kane, obviously that movie was released decades ago, yet I will always have someone to talk about the movie with, because it is an absolute classic which has stood the test of time.  However, last week I saw The Darkest Day.  I only saw it because the one movie theater near me shows new movies for $3.  I was able to talk to a guy at work about that piece of shit, because it was fresh.  If I saw The Darkest Day in 2018, no one would know what the hell I was talking about.

We are amongst a group who is dedicated to talking about specific classic gaming.  There will always be an open ear if I wanted to talk about Moto Roader on these forums.  Yet a game that was released 2 1/2 years ago that wasn't a blockbuster title?  Less people would want to talk about that...  and obviously because we are on a forum dedicated to talking about games, we all like the social aspect of gaming.

Or, you could just not buy crap. My PSP collection is pretty solid. This would not be possible with the launch library.

I like to make leap of faith purchases, and yes, that does include some Street Fighter EX purchases.  If you only buy the best of the best, how do you know it is so?  Though I will admit, buying from a launch lineup gets you to play games you wouldn't otherwise play, due to the limited selection.  For example, I really enjoyed SSX on PS2 and I would never have bought Ridge Racer for PSX.  Pilotwings 64 is another game I probably don't buy if I didn't get the system at launch, and I genuinely enjoyed it.  I am hoping that Little Deviants is the next in a long line of launch day surprises.

There are some great launch games, nowadays there are more than their used to me. Wave Race Blue Storm, Pilot Wings 64, Ridge Racer (a couple).

I agree.  It doesn't compute to me why certain people come here to post how much they hate coming here.  If you don't like it here, go somewhere else.

Having said that, I certainly hope I wasn't the only one to email "the man who matters" about this.  Granted, he's never responded to any of my emails so I don't know that it will matter any.
