What's wrong with Dead Moon?

The music isn't memorable but other than that I like it.

Dead Moon just plain kicks ass. It has some of the best level progressions in any shooter.  8)

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I'm not sure what it is exactly. The game just has this overly simplistic feel to it. I own over 75 shooter titles, and it's easily my favorite genre, but I have always disliked Dead Moon.

If you added an Air Zonk-quality soundtrack to Dead Moon, that would elevate it's status from "good" to "f*ckin' awesome" in my book.

It all depends on taste, but I often appreciate games that keep the gameplay relatively simple/streamlined and am often turned off by (mostly modern) games with overly complicated gameplay that doesn't have the game design to match.

For example, games don't get any better than Plump Pop.  8)

Yeah tastes do vary. I like my shooters manic and intense, ala Soukyugurentai or Battle Garegga on the Saturn. The harder and crazier the better. : )

Dead Moon gets more intense as it goes on, but not very moment really crazy moments. The last boss is pretty insane and fast though!

I dislike slow shooters where your ship's gun is super weak. I just can't stand ones like that. Haven't played dead moon yet though, so can't talk shit about it yet, haha.

There are tons of weapons powerups in Dead Moon. So many it's almost a fault. Once you get a weapon you like, it's nearly impossible not to touch another powerup that switches your weapon.

Dead Moon is the shooter which all other shooters should strive to be as solid as.

This kind of adds for a fun challenge though, especially in the final stage that goes really fast.

Well Hudson made a liar out of me. : )

They pushed back World Sports Competition to June and in its' place stuck the extremely mediocre but quite humorous JJ & Jeff. And the lineup for June is now Bloody Wolf, Dead Moon, China Warrior, and World Sports Competition. What happened to Air Zonk and Neutopia is beyond me. I know they had emulation problems with Neutopia and Air Zonk before the Japanese releases, but I thought those were corrected once the games were released in Japan. Apparently not. Dissapointing month for the VC, and makes me glad I have the real system.

Sorry for posting inaccurate information. I'm not going to post from that source anymore. He tells me that Hudson just decided to make the change but I have no way or knowing which is true.

Did Captain Speirs really shoot 40 German prisoners??

I guess my "heresay" reference from Band of Brothers went unnoticed.

Looks like Air Zonk is out for the VC.

I've had the chance to play Neutopia recently.  The Zelda knockoff aspect of it was so dead on it wasn't even funny.  For Chrissakes, you even get bombs and the bloody fire wand.

That doesn't mean it's not a fun game though.  I really enjoyed it, even for its knock-offishness. :)

And the more reason to throw your TV out the window.

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!
